I too am tired of Ebay for different reasons. Namely getting ripped by sellers on shipping. I try to find auction items I want being sold by the same seller to combine shipping, it has worked for me for years - get items cheap, combined shipping at greatly reduced rate, me happy they happy. Lately the combine shipping has been nearly as expensive if not more so.

Nothing is "free" these days. Not the cost to list, not the final value fee, not the paypal fee, not the materials used to pack the items, not the gas used to drive to the PO and last but not least....not my time.
At least if you post here you save listing and final value fees. I'm tossing around the idea of selling off my vintage collection (sorry Nighthawk and Skullshine) and I'd much rather sell it here then on ebay. Even if I sell it here at a slight discount I still break even. |

Now you know why some people charge out the ass for shipping. It's trying to recoup some of the costs rhey incur. Not saying that's very fair to the consumer, but when I started selling I understood it a little better.

I have noticed printing shipping labels with paypal are cheaper than going to the post office and the the mailman takes them for you. Saves the gas to the PO and boxes are free on USPS they come right to your house also and you can get old Newspapers from the paper place in your town(at least mine gives them to me). That is how I have been able to cut some cost when I was selling on Ebay

Exactly. It's called shipping and handling. While I refuse to buy or sell on places like EBay, I find nothing wrong with a seller passing on fees to the consumer. Oil companies do it. Grocery stores do it. Wal Mart does it. Hell, Obama has been talking alot lately about taxing oil profits. We already know full good and well that the oil companies would just figure out a way to pass those taxes on to us, the consumers, through increased gas prices. If these corporations can do it then why should anyone be upset that people selling on eBay do it? Next time, increase your shipping fees to include the cost of listing the item and any other fees associated with the transaction. Spell out the terms of your shipping and handling (e.g. what it includes) in your description so there is no confusion later on. That's about all I can suggest.

Right. I meant that the 30 cent transaction fee would be the same no matter how much his item sold for...still 3 or 4% isn't really that bad. |
