All you have to do is imagine that guy was your brother,or dad,or best friend-taking down that sick f*cker wouldnt be so hard then and that guy would still be alive.

but thats a good point about the close quarters. That would only make things more chaotic.
Ive had a knife pulled on me before, and when the guy lunged at me, about 4 people jumped him, however it wasn't like it was out of nowhere. Me and the guy were in each others faces, and everyone knew something was up, and was outside in a wide open parking lot. Something like this, where your just sitting there listening on your ipod and all of a sudden this happened, would be a lot like standing outside, and just happening to look down to see a poisonous snake touching your foot. Your immediate, instinctive reaction would be to get away from the danger to assess the situation, and in this case, it may have been too late, and as stated before, by that time you have dozens of other passengers piling past you, not allowing you to get to the victim. Very sad day indeed, and my condolences to the family of this horrific crime. I would have loved to have heard a heroic tale come out of this, but sometimes the reality just sucks.

Have they reported on the guy's rationale yet? What set him off? There just seems like much more to this than a random Kid listening to headphones, getting gutted and beheaded on the bus.
To the Guy who made the comment about Mental Hospitals Drugging the patients into a coma: Please Visit one and see that that is not the majority case, in reality. For me when my grandfather works for a mental health ward. Yes, many of the patients are Drugged, to the point of not being able to know up from down right form left. Near Comatose is NOT a Coma!! That is reality!

Again, its easy to say that when you werent there, its so easy to pickture yourself the macho man hero. Lets say you tried to subdue the guy. The victims already dead, the attacker stabs you in the throat right before you knocked 2 people and an elderly person on your way to the back of the bus in the narrow isle. Now you are grabbing your throat in the isle blocking the 5 people that were behind the attacker and victims seats bus from getting out, now hes stabing the other 5 people. Im not saying its right that people didnt help but it just bugs me that people that werent there judge the people that were there, you didnt know how it went down and you didnt know the circumstances, and you will never know unless it happened to you.

If it was your loved one getting attacked-im sure nothing in the world could stop you getting to them.If it was my brother getting stabbed-even if it was too late i wouldnt care how many wounds i ended up with i would fucking stop that guy from hurting anyone else. Its not about "being macho" its about doing the right thing.

My initial thought was "why didn't anyone help?" Then i read the article and some other ones about this. The attack got up on the seat and had a reported 6-8in bowie (described as Rambo-esque)knife. He then started stabbing downward repeatedly and viciously. Everyone on the bus was asleep or unaware. They were awakened by the screams of the victims being stabbed in the throat and chest.
I would like to think I would help, but being woken up by blood curdling screams and seeing a guy with a HUGE knife killing a person. I dont know. Lets face it, the victim was dead after one stab. You dont live through that blade attack ungaurded. It's impossible. There was nothing anyone could have done at that point. Fleeing was the best option. The attacker essentially torn the victim apart. Which is just disturbing to the core. I'm sickened just thinking about it. The reality is though, this would not have happened on a plane. The flight or fight response would have kicked in. You cant escape a plane and people would have fought...thats saying he somehow got the knife on a plane. Which is impossible at this point. Ack. Done now, im just weirded out by the whole thing.

Thats the thing that kinda bugged me. Granted, I wasn't there, Im sure it woulda been F-ed up, but if theres one of them, and 5+ other passengers, you could probably subdue the guy with minimal injury, to me, it would seem to take more effort to stop the bus, open the doors, and jump out.
Again, I wasn't there, and who knows how I would have honestly reacted, but to see someone get attacked like that, and know that you have a ton of people behind you, I just find it surprising that no one went to try to stop the man. Quote:

unfortunatly our justice system doesn't seem to believe in capital punishment or life sentences. there are so many problems, everything is bass ackwards.
i could ramble on for hours about it. part of the problem is our judges are not elected and therefore accountable to the electorate. They are appointed by the government of the day and basically carry out the government's mandate. (gun registry comes to mind) i know the kid killed was working at the fair here and was on his way home. My wife and 2 kids went to that fair and i never felt like it was a safe enviroment. this is a systemic problem in our country and it's only getting worse Quote:
the biggest kicker is that our justice system is a joke, routinely convicted murders, rapists, and pedophiles are released after serving 1/3 of their sentence. as a taxpayer we'll spend 100's of thousands on a trial, imprisionong him and he'll probally be out in 10yrs. you know us nice, polite,
Canadians would rather rehabilate him then do what is probally necassary Quote:
I don't agree with that, but we'll see what happens. |
