We've all seen someone that we didn't approve of, didn't like or couldn't stand. After reading certain books I'm now more empathetic, understanding and appreciative for if it wasn't for GOD I would've had the same impressions and experiences as that person and would therefore be JUST like that person.
At one point or another we've felt or experienced financial insecurity. Whenever I'm at a hospital I always ask myself, "How can I improve my net-worth?" Weird, right? This is because the contrast of the ‘haves’ and ‘haves not’ are so vivid there. After listening to certain audio books I now realize that I must BECOME more in order to HAVE more. Post your books or audio books that has changed the way you see or dream about life. Here are the books that has had the biggest impact on my life: ‘How to Win Friends & Influence People’ by Dale Carnegie ‘THINK AND GROW RICH’ by Napoleon Hill |

Good thread. I read "Into the Wild" and it really has changed the way I think about life and my place in it. When I first started college 3 years ago, I was driven by materialism and the money I could earn. Things changed after experiencing the story of Chris Macandless.
I am more focused now on finding a career that helps others, and ulitimately find that the little things in life are truly what makes life worth living. As a matter of fact, my newfound philosophy towards finding happiness through experience and discovery has driven a wedge between myself and my girlfriend of 4 years. She just finished law school and has became very much wrapped up in social networks and materialism. I on the other hand could care less about that stuff and the pretenses that come with it. So we split up last month. Everybody has their thing, and to each their own. I just never thought a book/movie/soundtrack could change my outlook on life in such a way. Im really glad it has |

Im really glad it has BTW, Wyo, I hope that's going better for you, it really sounds like you're better off in the long run. Also thought you might enjoy this: Where The Hell Is Matt? Not just the Dancing 2008 video, but the story behind it. As far as books, I would highly recommend Amusing Ourselves to Death by Neil Postman. It's a non-fiction long essay (not really a novel) about how, in the age of TV, ALL public discourse has become entertainment. I.E., the nightly news isn't about the news, it's about capturing an audience to sell them advertisements, that political campaigns aren't about laws, budgets and issues, they are about presenting an image. If you've ever watched the news (local or 24 hours), presidential debates, or other public dialogs and thought, "this isn't news, this is entertainment," than this is a MUST READ. It's short, insightful, and will likely cause you to reexamine politics, news, TV, churches and schools.
