Like many a Star Wars collector, I have seen some stuff the last couple of weeks I want to buy on pallets at Wal-Mart and at one Wal-Mart even put out on the pegs and shelves, but of course they can't be sold 'til 7/26.
What is the logic behind street-dating toys? Or even CDs/DVDs for that matter? My area of expertise is not business so I have no idea. Please enlighten me. |

As for Street Dates, it's something to do with marketing, and as far as I am concerned it is THE DUMBEST THING ON EARTH. You see we have this product here and people really want it, but because some ass hat decided that they can't be sold until this date they have to sit here taking up space, and NOT SELLING!

if for some reason, they hit the floor before the street date, that store will be flagged down. as for their punishment? i dunno. it might be bad. but i dunno. thus they need to tell the system when it is ok to sell the release on the specified date.
movie and dvd release street date is well monitored, but not on toys. well some.
i guess the street date is pretty much up to the distributor. and i think they need to CLEARLY label that the toys have street dates. but normally they don't. thus, a poor associate will not have a clue that the item(s) might have a street date or on ROTO hold, unless they're labeled. but in this instance they don't. that's why i've seen the clone trooper helmets and stuff out on the floor, even though it has a street date, but not knowing if they have a freaking date.
fisher price is consistentg with street dates (so far) like the extreme TMX Elmo. i guess Hasbro should learn from them.
