WTF? Paramount is F'ing us at SDCC!

Copied from Latinoreview.com

J.J. Abrams is upset that he won't be able to show off any footage of next year's Star Trek movie. Paramount appears to be the only studio not boldly going where all the other studios are going, and that's the San Diego Comic-Con:

"I would have been psyched just to show some of the stuff that's about the people. Because it's not really about the visual effects. But with so little done ... . And this was a big kind of strategic decision on [Paramount's] part. so I was disappointed."

Abrams talks about the tone of the film, throwing out the kitsch to keep things more on the realistic side of the crew's relationships.

"The dynamic between the characters, [was key]. I never saw how Kirk and Spock became so connected. And that's what this movie does. And it does it with the entire family of the Enterprise."

Even though this is a relaunch of the series, they still won't sever all ties with the old characters. Putting Leonard Nimoy in the film as Spock and even James Doohan's kid just proves how fans are not willing to completely let go of the older actors in these roles.

As reported earlier, Paramount is saving money and saying "F all that crap!" about this year's convention. No Transformers 2 or G.I. Joe stuff is to be shown. (By Paramount anyway. Take that for what you will.)

Gimmie a break. I am quite angry now. I bought my dam tickets with all the talk of seeing the upcoming stuff! Now after we have Plane tickets and hotel stays etc...we lose out... I should f'n sue.

Paramount is making the mother of all bad business decisions by not going after the grassroots nerd support.

Fox showed the first glimpses of X2 and Spiderman 2 there, Marvel did it with Iron Man, and WB had an ingenious viral campaign last year for Batman. All these help to generate grassroots exitement on the part of the hardcore fans that translate into box-office returns.

Seriously. That's lame. I bet Paramount won't let critics preview the movie. Artists afraid of critics- that's lame. Oh wait, I'm talking about Hollywood, the only industry that can produce technically brilliant pieces of poop.

Not unsurprising at all Paramount has made a lot of bad decisions the last few years.

I reported this in the "movie will be ok" thread hours ago.

I'm not sure what people think this 'proves'. Paramount have just lost a big financial package, and movies (especially bigguns like Joe, Trek & TF) cost millions to promote. So they're holding back on all three apparantly. I don't see this as yet another reason to say the movie will be 'crap'.
I am put out to not be seeing any footage (were we ever promised any this early?) but that's all.

Well, not showing any scenes or rushed trailers doesn't mean the movies will suck.
It just means that people won't be able to see sneak peeks of them at this point, and there won't be a ton of word of mouth about how cool or wacky the stuff they saw was.
Maybe they are waiting for next years set of cons to roll around before they show anything cool, as it's still some time away before most of those movies hit.

And the geek in me has to say that they showed all of that stuff, and more months earlier than SDCC at Wondercon in SF.
Back in Feb we got to see clips of the X Files movie, Wall-e, and a few other movies.
I know everyone is all up ons about SDCC, as it is the biggest con, and it offers exclusive toys and all that, but Wondercon is one of the earlier cons in the year, and always shows tons of good stuff.

But that's just it. Getting space at a con and promoting it there hardly costs more than a 30-sec TV spot in prime time, and can lead to huge returns in the good buzz it generates. Moviegoers aren't as stupid or naive as we were a decade ago. We know that any smelly turd can have a good trailer, which makes it more important that ever to find ways to get that good fan-buzz going. It makes no sense that Paramount wouldn't want to capitalize on the fans who live online.

I thought this was old news. Didn't someone mention like two weeks ago that Paramount wasn't going? And also that HASBRO was going to show footage of both G.I.Joe and Transformers 2? That's something I read somewhere, possibly Ain't it cool news. But, seriously...you want to sue because Paramount isn't going to go? At what point did Paramount promise you that if you spent money on plane tickets, hotels and admission to one of the biggest events of the year that happens to include thousands of events, that they would show you footage of a movie over a year away? It's never been a guarantee that anything was ever going to be shown there, just hoped. And from the sound of things, still is. Not to mention, you still are goin to be able to see in person new Joe goodness from the likes of Hasbro and Sideshow Toys.

I wouldn't freak out yet, you may still have an amazing time out there.
