Looking back on my childhood...

...I realize that none of the kids I knew were really into toys like I was. None of the kids in my neighborhood ever had many toys. They never talked about them. They never played with them. You never saw any toys in the back yard. They hardly had anything in their bedrooms. None of the kids in my school were much into toys either. And they didn't talk about the cartoons. And a few of them even picked on me for being into Star Wars so heavily, I had a reputation for being a Star Wars nut.

I can't think of a single kid that was obsessed or a fan of any of the toy lines. Definitely didn't know anybody that had to "collect them all". I knew one kid in the 1st grade that had a few Shogun Warriors and a couple Battlestar Galactica ships. And another that was into Star Wars & Battlestar Galactica but then all of a sudden went psycho obsessed with sports & nothing but sports. Whenever we played with toys I had to bring mine over because they didn't have anything & didn't seem to want anything. The only kids I knew that had a crap load of toys like I did were my 2 cousins. But they don't care about them now, never got back into them.

I wonder why I never noticed this until now!?! I was the only freak that loved toys. They said I was spoiled but now I think I was the only normal one.

And I didn't come from a poor neighborhood, they all had money. The kids just weren't interested in toys. How can you be a kid in the 80's & ignore all those wonderful toys???

I have a similar story. I had only one house next to ours and I was lucky enough to have a kid live there that was the same age is me. He was the only one I ever played with (With toys). His mom a signal parent didn't have a lot of money so he didn't have too much GI Joe but he loved what he had. We usually played with my Joes because I had so much more.
But besides him no one in school or any of the other kids I would ever hung out with played or even talked about GI Joe or any other toys for that matter. Kind of weird now that I think about it. Cool thing is that one kid that lived next door is still my best friend to this day and has got to see my huge GI Joe collection all set up. :o)

I was luck enough to have my best friend into the same things as me. We ran through every toy line together - Star Wars, GI Joe, Transformers, MASK, Sectors, and any other flash in the pan figure line. I still remember taking the cushions from the couch and chairs in the family room (they also had a living room w/ a TV) and creating a monsterous fortress for the Joes. That was the norm so I figured everyone was into the same things as us. It wasn't until I got a little older that I discovered action figures weren't cool.

Yep, me too! I had my buddy Anthony, who was right into toys just like I was. But - and it was a good thing - he liked different stuff than me. I had the G.I.Joe and Transformers, and he had the He-Man, Voltron, and M.A.S.K.. I think he had some Jayce vehicles too. Another friend, Shane, was into Joes too, and had way more stuff than I did!

So I definitely had some friends to share my love of toys!

Actually, with the "none of.." preceding it, "were" is correct.

With "none" and "weren't", it's a double-negative.

It's weird, everybody complains that kids aren't into to toys these days because of video games but they weren't really into them back then either. But they did sell a lot better back then. So who was buying them? This is weird!

I think maybe a lot of kids played with Joes and other toys but they just didn't talk about it. I loved my Joes but I don't recall talking about them to other kids. The only toy I ever remember bring into elementary school was my big Voltron toy. Funny thing is (Or maybe not that funny) is I got in a fight that day and got suspended. Day started out so good and ended so bad.

I always thought it was hilarious when I got suspended. They give you a vacation as punishment. Idiots!
