I know alot of you were in the military and thought it would be interesting for us to read some of your war stories. Please, nothing classified.

My favorite story was when there was this Iraqi on post dumpster diving, and "found" an atropine injector. Atropine is used in a chemical gas attack - if you're exposed to the gas before you get your protective mask on, and feel the effects begin, there's a series of shots you have to give yourself in the back of your thigh or buttocks. They're spring-activated, and shoot a needle about two inches into your body. The first shot speeds up your heart, and the second one you administer a little after slows it back down. If you don't take the second, you're heart will basically explode. (There's a film we watch in basic training where they give the first shot to a goat, but not the second, so we see what happens.)
Well, this Iraqi accidentally activated the injector, and it shot through his hand. He stood up real quickly, and we had no idea what was wrong at first, but he turns around with his hand up and says in broken English, "I think I may be having a problem here." He was okay, because the needle went through his hand and shot the atropine out the other side. Naturally, it was a freak accident, because those needles don't get thrown in the garbage - especially when they're unused. It could have been serious, but it was just funny in the end. |

Well its not a "War Story" per se, but I did drag oil covered, mangled corpses out of dark, oily and burning Atlantic ocean when TWA Flight 800 made an unexpected water landing. I swear we pulled some living people out of the water that night, but once they got onto the deck we'd lose them. I had to go below deck and throw up after I went to pull one out and just got a arm with pink, sliding off skin.
Yeah I guess the Coast Guard is for pussies and all you know.

I was in the first Persian Gulf War as an MP. All told, I was in the service for eight years, including six months in the Gulf.

I enlisted in the Gulf War and all I kept thinking that it was just like the cartoon. It help me in a lot a ways. I had a lot of bad things happen in front of me that I wish I never saw none of it. That's why I tell people that it's not like the cartoon. Once they are gone they don't come back. I'm really Sorry if I offended anyone here.
