Well, after a year of living in an apartment, we lost our house to a fire last Oct, my wife and I are trying to buy a house. I have made the commitment to give up, or at the very least, take a long break from collecting. I am thinking about selling the majority of my collection on eBay, or yard sell. We could really use the money to help with the down payment. I love the hunt, but after I find something I don't get that thrill anymore. I haven't had a chance to customize since the fire, no room. So, this could be the end for me. Anyone else ever find yourself having to choose?

My wife and I found out we're expecting our first child. We were told, that without medical help, we'd never have children. We did it all ourselves. But because of our arrival, I've seriously cutback on collecting, and I'm considering selling off tons of stuff, so I know how you feel.

Ive been up and down as far as collecting and selling goes - I have about half the comic book and figure collection I used to have just from selling it to get through hard times - but it makes you realize its just "stuff" at the end of the day and you can live without it.

I know how you feel. I was a completist for the longest time with the 25th anniversary stuff, but by the end I was talking myself out of repaints, vehicles, etc. I'm trying to get more strict with ROC figs and am considering scaling WAY back. For some reason I'm feeling burned out on this - and maybe also realizing that in my 30s I'm spending more time/energy/thought on toys than I should be. I think collecting is an addiction of sorts and it can be really hard to cut yourself off. I used to collect Star Wars figs from '95 through '02, but did manage to quit that line - so it is possible. I just have to keep telling myself that...

I sold my collection both when my daughtor was born to help cover extra niceties we wanted for her, and again whn my son was born two months premature to help cover my insurance deductable. I don't regret either, I just did what I needed to do,
and that was that. Sell it off, and don't look back. These are just toys for fun, they don't mean much. Do what you gotta do, and enjoy your life!

My wife and I were told more or less the same thing except the "without medical help" part, ie. that we would never be able to have children. And that it was my wife's fault because of her diabetes which is a bunch of baloney because her diabetes is genetic, not due to uncontrolled habits or weight gain. (in fact she leans toward the other way b'that's another story) Long story short, now we've got two kids and couldn't be happier. And... I find that I am collecting MORE now than before. What's better, I find that it gives me something to share w/ the kids. Khill, sorry for your loss. Hopefully things will turn around and whatever you choose to do will work out for you |

If it is more about "the hunt" than "the have" then sell them. Just keep in mind all the stories that have been posted here about regreting getting rid of collections and having to start all over.
I don't know how extensive your collection is, but you will not get want you want for selling it quickly and in lots. Instead consider taking the amount you have been spending on collecting, don't buy anything anymore, and put that amount away that would have spent. Save save save. |

I really hope this isn't a regret.
