ok guys. listen up. I wanna get your opinion on this.
So I wanted to buy a Geology textbook as I am going back to College to finish it. So after registering, I grab the ISBN from my college website, which is 978-0495560074, and start searching around for it on Amazon. Terrible high price. So I go to ebay and I search using 978-0495560074 The ISBN brings up all the ebay auctions with the ISBN number. Low and behold I find a nice one that has the opening bid of 25 dollars. The auction has a photo of the book, plus all the ISBN and author and publishing info. Awesome. So I bid, and I win it for 40 dollars. go me. I get it yesterday....and I see somthing wrong. The cover is not what was on ebay. Same cover picture, but with a big white "International Edition" banner, complete with "DO NOT SELL IN US". So I look up the ISBN Its 978-0495559900 I imediatly rush to amazon first to see the differences. Amazon presents me with completely different page numbers. so angry that I've been swindled, I go to Ebay asking for my money back from the seller. He says No. Because aparently, under an entire page worth of information on the US version, including the US versions ISBN, he has a single sentence that says "This is the International Version". Now I'm angry, opened up an Ebay Case with a lengthy description of what the situation is. after 3 messages from him he's not messaging me anymore. So My whole case is "I would not have even found his page if he wasnt selling it as the US edition with a single "Matter of Fact" sentence at the end after all the info I needed." Do I have a case and am I in the right. and if for any reason I lose, are there any canadian hisstank brothers who would like to purchase a Geology Textbook for College for 40 bucks. Lol

IMO you do, he misrepresented what he was selling...but ebay logic tells me you just never know how things there especially disputes will pan out, so what you, I or anyone else thinks likely won't matter much.
I'd say you have a better than average chance of winning the case. But who knows. |

to be honest I could prolly get more for it if I sold it since the book tends to go for around 80 dollars used. but Its the principal of the thing.

I agree with O.O.A.L.B. You are in the right. The item was misrepresented and one sentence in the description doesn't get him off the hook when the ISN # is clearly different than what was listed. But again, it's eBay one never knows how these disputes will end.
Best of luck. |

Typical Ebay, mostly good honest sellers, but the ones that are arses you just cant reason with.
Youre well in the right if hes listed with different image and ISBN. |

Guy was clearly trying to misrepresent what he was selling, but added in the one sentence in an attempt to maintain he had full disclosure. I feel you have a good case of item being not what was described based on the picture being wrong and he put in a different ISBN number than what the book really is.

I LOVE crazy Ebay disputes! I've had my share, and it's no fun. Anyway, I would say you are in the right, but like others have said, it's eBay, so who the F knows, right? Give it a shot; the worst that will happen is they say you have no case. Then sell the text book.
I only go to eBay now as a last resort, and when I do, I do it knowing I might get screwed at any point, so I have to be willing to bid what I can walk away from and not get too riled up about if I get screwed. |

Best of luck. Tough call...yes, he put the wrong info in the bulk of the description, but that one ending comment could save his ass.
