Well, the time has come to say goodbye to the collection.
We recently found out we're pregnant (again) with our second child! They're going to be 13 months apart, so really close together. I've been doing some serious evaluating of my time and financial situation, and have decided to sell off my entire collection. I spend a lot of time lurking around here, checking out the latest news, customs, working out trades for the newest releases, and talking about how the movie is going to SUCK (). The 'tank has become a very big part of my life in an unexpected way - I compulsively check the website 10-20 times per day randomly, even when at work. I'll idly surf for an hour or two on Saturday morning instead of getting the the projects I have waiting for me, and I can't count how many nights I've stared at the computer instead of reading a good book or talking with my wife or playing with my 7month old daughter. I also spend far to much money on gas driving to stores and searching for toys, and buying toys I don't even want just to have, so the financial benefit of "quitting the habit" will be good too. I've decided it's become too much a part of me, so I gotta let it go! This is most decidedly not a comment on the 'tank itself, or the community here - I've loved the time spent here, and I feel like I've made some friends. I just know my personality and nature, and I can't control myself well enough to balance my time on the hobby, and "real life", so now was the time to make the choice. I'll still be lurking around here from time to time, just not nearly as much. If you want to buy part of what's left of my collection, check my sig. /shamelessplug Thanks to everyone here who's helped me out getting a toy, or PM'd me a coupon or sighting, and thanks to everyone who's shared news, sightings, or my opinion on how much the movie will suck. It's been an absolute pleasure to be part of this community, and I'm going to miss it, I'm sure. Yo Joe! -Derek

gonna miss you. you were one of the first 'tankers I did a deal with, and it was easy and a pleasure. though your reasoning is not only sound but justified. I've said myself at some point Joes will no longer be a priority in my life, and when that occurs, I will bow out as well. thankfully, that time hasn't occurred, but it will one day. it is inevitable. good luck to the family, and I hope to see you post from time to time. perhaps when you walk away from it you will develop the peace that will allow you to simply post casually, which is hard to do when you are so focused on collecting which instigates anxiety and compulsion.

well put gunslinger...
i too, like you Derek, find myself wondering if i am dedicating too much of my life to a hobbie...in about 8 months i've gone from remembering Joes from my childhood to them practically enveloping my life...(maybe not that bad)...it's hard to find a balance, but it can be done, although i say this having noone to care for but myself and my wife... well take care man, i can only imagine how genuinely tough it must be to part with something you seem to cherish as much as i do... good luck, eddie |

You were the first 'tanker I traded/sold with and you were very kind and understanding even though I was pretty naive with the whole process. You were easily one of the most important reasons why I felt really at home here when I first started posting, and I can't think of anyone else I know here that exemplifies the best this site has to offer.
Now pass those pearls of wisdom to your kids, buddy.

You will be missed Derek. Your wife and children are the most important thing in your life right now and your are making the right choice. This is just a hobby and joes will be here waiting for you when you're able to come back. Good luck with everything and congrats on the new addition to the family.

I don't need to debate whether I spend too much time thinking and posting about little toy army guys. I think the answer is clear. I'm just impressed with anyone who can kick this habit.
It was good to know you Derek, both here and on Rebelscum. I hope to hear back from you when the movie comes out and you've just got to buy everything, er, for your kids... when they're old enough. Yeah, that's it. RoG

you're an ass and a troll. there is no devils advocate to play here, and what you said isn't true. G.I. Joe simply isn't important to him so he isn't going to collect anymore. simple as that. his family is what is important, and he would rather spend time with them than working an extra job to buy toys. only an imbecile would even consider doing such. you simply aren't intelligent enough to see that truth and can only comprehend what is spelled out for you. that's probably why you have to work 2 or 3 jobs, because you don't know how to work smart so you work hard.
