I agree completely. The new cartoons are the worst! And Cartoon Network needs to be put out of it's misery.
BUT, if you go take a look at the Transformers boards you'll find that majority there love Transformers:Animated to death. They can't get enough of it. And I'm sure the Joe fans would be the same exact way. Hate it before it's released but worship it after it has been released. |

Animation has been getting lazy since the 1950s, the wartime Loony-Toons shorts are works of art, then came the 70's and the Hanna Barbra templates.. The Joe toon was never a shining beacon of animation quality, remember that retarded run everyone had?

is it just me or did everyone forget about the centurions and swat cats? that use to be me and my lil bro's like favorite shows along with gijoe. power extreme!!!! lol some of it is cheesy now that i look back at it but the centurions were cool as shit with all there weapons. and the swat cats were cool too! although we do need the old style joe cartoons back... what about the rest of season 2? and 3? i dont care if these companies want to point these cartoons at kids we were the first ones watching them and they need to make them the way we want them!!!! and by the way japan anime crap is so stupid, dont even get me started. its the worst shit ever!

the last cartoons I watched with enthusiasm were the mainframe cgi cartoons. Reboot, Beastwars, Beastmachines and the lesser known Shadowraiders(War Planets for non Canadians) which I thought was the best (and these all had story arcs or at least eventually). Gargoyles first 2 seasons was another excelent series (before they changed it to Goliath Chronicals). Animaniacs was a brilliant show that adults and kids could like. Once the japanese animes like digimon started to come, I stopped watching cartoons. (though I do love the adult animes)
yeah DIC joes was pretty corny and geared towards younger kids who needed to be told everything that the character was doing. When ever I was watchign the gi joe series in the mornings( i was born in 83) I always hoped to get an early episode and not a DIC episode because they characters were so much more real. I was one of those guys who would basically watch any gi joe series as long as it didn;t suck too bad. I recorded sigma six and it was ok, i really liked the way season 2 was going and wanted to see the whole season..but it quietly got canceled. I don't know if i could have watched a spytroops or gi joe vs cobra cartoon. The spy troops movie was bad enough in my opinion Some great cartoons o fthe 80's and 90's for me were x-men TAS pretty sweet except for a few of the episodes at the end with cheap animation. Spider-man TAS - every episode was good in my book X-men evolution - how could I resist, the last season was great. Conan the adventurer. I hurried home from school everyday to catch this R0nin Warriors - It wa son during the summer break for me during school and they looked pretty sweet in there armor and weapons I see the new spider-man animated series toys and they just look dumb. They look all cartooney, and the figures don't look proportional at all. took a quick look at the TF figures and they look dull, no detail, basically aimed at 6 yr olds. |

I understand the point about the new toons not being geared toward us "Old timers", yet I fail to see what exactly made us at ages 5-10 so much smarter than the same age group today? I don't think it's the kids getting dumber, I think it's the writers and producers who are in need of some serious schooling. I know many parents would feel a lot better about spending time around the tv with their kids if the kids weren't being forced to watch mindless garbage. It's real sad when Sponge Bob has more grown up appeal than a GI JOE or Transformers show, but that's where we're at.

im hoping the new gi joe will not be as bad as the transformers(which for soem reason i do watch). i did watch every episode of sigma six, even got my g/f to watch them with me to give them ratings. not that i was happy with it, especially tunnel rat, but i was just so thrilled at a new joe cartoon. i never even thought of buying a single S6 figure though.
