so true. unfortunatly. But Honestly even though I know its there, I dont recognize it because race is not important to me as it shouldnt be important to anybody. Its when that divide pops up that I fight against it. I am slavic, whose people went through a racial genocide in Bosnia. I have friends who are Black. I have friends who are Jewish. ect ect ect. That guy disgusts me and hopefully the presidency wont be decided on Bigotry and Idiocy. Those things should stay in American Idol and not our Presidential Elections.
Post of the day. I agree with you 100%. Thank you sir! |

no its not that you can't have an opinion.
you just can't have a public opinion. Post Office- you smile and greet them then when they walk away you smash the SHIT out of thier package even though it says 'fragile' so that when it comes to the next person it sounds like a freaking jigsaw puzzle. (then you do the "oh ya! no insurance celebratory dance.) Just a 'few' of the experiences you will have when you entrust service into other people God Bless America where even assholes get to have freedom to express thier opinion. On another note, I worked at a San Diego City job behind a counter for 10 years. I know what its like to do an endless customer service job like his. Small talk, bantering back and forth are all okay, but there are some subjects that are just off limits. Racist remarks DEFINITELY qualifies as one of them. |

In today's day and age, that is truly sad. I'm not going to turn this into some political debate, but I find it truly disturbing that Obama will not have a fair presidential race now. It will be viewed as BLACK and WHITE by a many in this country. It won't be viewed as the best man for the job. It disgusts me.
And Wyo your experience with that Postal worker was just wrong. I would have called that fool out on the spot "Adam Sandler" style. Make that racist a'hole look like a complete jackass. |

I have to vent about this, because it disgusts me. This thread is not about politics or who should be the next president. Its about my experience at the post office today and my internal struggle to deal with it.
So I go to mail off some GIJOE stuff and Im in line. The clerk behind the counter starts making small talk. I talked with him, then he starts mumbling under his breath about the "Black House". I was like, "Huh?" Hes all, "Looks like they are going to have to paint the white house black, unless Mccain wins" I was shocked. Not because of that BLATANTLY racist viewpoint, but because it was coming from a FEDRAL post office clerk while he was working. Calmly, I said, "I dont know, I think it would be good to have a minority president someday". He says, "No Obama, hes Muslim and a terrorist from Africa! He swore on the Koran! " I said, "You must be talking about that email that went out saying all that garbage. Man, theres no truth to that. Where did you read that? Him, "The internet" Of course, I thought. I said to him, "Man, my Dad was from Iran and I'm not a terrorist. Just because hes from African descent doesnt make him a terrorist?" I basically ended the conversation saying that once you are educated, you will stop thinking in terms of color. He turned to his coworker, and started speaking in another language so I couldnt understand him. I walked away. At first, I left the post office thinking to myself 3 things..1.Wow, thats never happened to me before! 2. Should I say something to his supervisor...because that kind of talk is inappropriate for patron/clerk transactions and 3. There is still a HUGE racial divide in this country...whether people want to recognize it or not. In the end, I couldnt stop from thinking about what happened and called the post office to speak to his supervisor. The post office supervisor was really understanding and said that they already had a file of complaints against him, Im not the first. Anyways, there is no moral to this story. I dont want the guy fired. I guess I just hope that someday we as a country and can put aside color differences and just vote for the best canidate. I realize that hope is somewhat idealistic and will probably never be possible. Just the sad irony of life I guess. Sam After reading this i am just speechless. I just can't believe that a postal worker would behave this way...

That is utterly ridiculous that a postal worker would carry on a dialogue like that! Shame on him!
Seriously though I think this thread is making a B-line for a political discussion. |

Ya know, I had a similar thing happen to me the other night at work. They have CNN on the breakroom tv and a female (mid 60's) co-worker said "I'd vote for any white person before I'd vote for a black person. I was just raised in a different generation. I tried for years not to be like my dad but the older I get, the more I realize that I AM my fathers daughter."
I understand that everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, no matter how different they may be from my own... but that was just strait out racist! I, honestly, would rather have Obama in the White House over McCain. That would piss off alot of people in my family since they are staunch Republicans. I don't pick sides/ parties - I pick who I think is right for the position. Some of you may disagree with me, and that's fine. At least I'm not some 60-something year old screaming (more-or-less) "white power!". People like her piss me off. |
