I used to love to take my Joes out when I was a kid in the mid '80s. I used to lose the weapons all of the time so I would made guns and swords out of twigs from the trees. I used to dig in the dirt and set up an imaginary battle. I had most of the Joe stuff but hardly any Cobra stuff so I would have the Joes fight an imaginary enemy. I would do little dioramas with Flint and Rock 'N Roll on recon for example entrenched at the base of a tree that I dug up into. Sand at the park was cool too as it was desert terrain for Dusty. I had also loved going to my friends house whom had a swimming pool and just about every toy made in the '80s. We would have a blast trying to sink the Killer W.h.a.l.e. and also use Torpedo and Wet-Suit on deep dives to explore for Cobra. Man those were great times.
Did you guys do this stuff or am I in my own little world with the rest of the kids on my block? If so, lets hear it.

Oh yea. Those are good memories.
As for the 'making your own weapons.' Closest thing I can come to that is putting a toothpick into darth vader's saber slot. |

one of my fondest childhood memories was going down to my friends house and he'd dump all of his joe and sw toys out in his front yard and we'd have epic battles. I never had any joe or sw toys of my own. but this memory is pretty much why I collect now.

I remember he had the defiant and all sort of other vehicles. I was too busy having fun to be jealous.
We'd each pick a figure to represent us then the rest would be our soldiers or teams.

there was an island in the middle of a creek bed with low and slow flowing water surrounding it, made the perfect cobra island, so much so we left it set up with a couple hundred dollars in toys...then it rained real hard aaaaand, yo joe became no joes. anyone living down river prob scored some decent 82-86 shit wherever they washed up. didnt detere my collecting though. and thats not the only oh shit there goes the collection story, ive even another one!

When I was about 8 or so, this kid next door was a real destructo type. He was super rough with his toys. One time I went over to his place and he had the Star Wars Millennium Falcon that he was shooting with his bb gun. We took it up a notch and got some gasoline out of his shed, lit it on fire and threw it up against a tree. All I remember after that is trying to put the fire out.

the other, i had re-acquired a bunch of the stuff lost in the great flooding of "cobra island" (see previous viper6 sob story post) and i had them in a big camo colored cardboard box (which i colored myself so it was awesome) and i kept it outside in the high grass in my waaay back yard. well, my dad, on one of only a few visits ever to my moms house brought a big ole "brush hog" to clear the property. i remember getting off the school bus and thinking hmmm where did he move my stuff to i see the grass is all cut down. no porch, no garage, not in my room....so as i approach the scene of the CRIME, i see it, shards of joe..everywhere in the lawn clippns. to add icing to my shit cake i confront dad and he tells me "toys belong in a toy box" and "youre too old to play with toys"..i was 12!!!
