great thread, glad i found it.
i have a complete one and a shell. the shell i plan to customize, i know what i want to do but i was wondering what you guys though about a complete rebuild? if hasbro sat down today and was like we need to re-do this baby but we also have to save some cash. me i pretty much love it the way it is bc its over the top and still looks bad arse. but id like to see one more military as a smaller fast responder mcc type thing. this would fly out to the battle field and monitor the fight. having said that i would get ride of the gunner seats on the wings and make them unmanned gun pods. id really like to cut them off completely but it does need to protect itself plus means no retooling of that part. the carousel missile thing would be gone and i would place a small 4 propellered drone there. the rear gun i'd remove and put a small one seat boffers type gun there. so like shrink down the slam to a one seater. this gun would take care of incoming missiles and AA duties with its high rate of fire. the rear guns would still slide back. the front hatch would still flip open. the sun roof would get a removable hatch, something like the engine cover on the snow cat. now middle ramps. one side would flip over in a table like configuration. so it would flip over and drop down legs like on the tactical battle platform. this would house a small radar dish type thing for coms. the other ramp would be a set of stairs. the nose gun shortened a ton. get rid of the big rockets. if these things fired off everyone would be killed by the blast anyway. here is the only huge change. the bottom would need to be retooled. flat bottom this thing and build a drop in command center. use the action force apc as an example. have a coms station. some seats etc in there. and mold in a ladder for the flip out steps. get ride of the scout car. if hasbro did this at a $50-$60 price range id buy everyone toys r us had on the shelf. On a side not this isn’t what I plan to do with my shell. It will be something else entirely but should I find another I might tackle this. |

Here's a link to a custom one that sold on ebay last month. The guy basically cut two rolling thunders in half, and then welded the two together.

Ha! Well, it wasn't my auction or custom vehicle, so you won't offend me. I get what the guy was going for, but that yellow is a disaster. I thought the vehicle itself was cool looking, just not the paint job. I wouldn't pay $150 for it either though.

I've had a boxed RT for a couple of years now that I opened over the weekend now that I have the space to display. It was an awesome joy to open an almost 30 year old toy and put it together. My wife was cracking up how excited I was about it, and how careful I was putting the pieces together.
I was really worried it would not be in good shape because I had bought a Bridgelayer in the same lot and the black plastic tank treads broke the minute I opened it. Also, it wasn't even complete, even though the box looked like it was factory sealed. It's in really good shape. I had to replace to O-Ring on Armadillo, and a couple pieces were warped - probably from being stored in an attic, but everything was there and the stickers were still good. This thing is a well designed toy - really like how the sliding mechanism works at the main cannon and the missile tower unfolds. I can't even image the joy you must of felt putting that together! |
