Okay so I know there has been threads about O-ring vs 25th style Joe figures. From what I've read more people like the 25th over the O-ring and would not like to see o-ring brought back. I enjoy the O-rings a lot and like a few of the 25th/ POC.
But then I see Mattel has made these "old school" DC figures that Mego used to make. I've seen some people say they really like them and can't wait to get them. My question is if people dislike the O-ring Joes because they aren't as detailed compared to the 25th style figures, then why would people like the Mattel DC figures? Wouldn't that be a step backwards? I mean the DC figures today are way more detailed just like the 25th Joes then the retro DC figures. |

Haven't seen these new DC figures you speak of, but the old Mego dolls had great articulation. That goes a long way in determining the quality of a figure.

The retro DCs you're talking about. Where they the ones where you squeeze their legs/arms and the arms/legs move? I think they had that yellow hall of justice too.
Nevermind. I looked. You're talking about some older DC stuff. |

I loved my Megos as a kid. Saw them at one of my TRUs and jumped back with sticker shock at the price ($19.99)! Mind you, I remember them being $2- a pop. After it wore off, I've decided I'll pick up a couple when I've got the $$ to spare. And even then, it's because I'm a big DC fan.
As for O-Ring Joes, I actually had some I got rid of a few years ago (still have a couple or so in storage). I've tightened and limited my toy purchases over the years, and decided I wouldn't purchase any O-Rings simply because I just don't like them. Loved them as a kid, but not hot on them now. Only got into Joe again because of the awesome sculpts and articulation, also got me to start customizing again. O-Rings just feel like too much of a step back for my toy wants.

Yes, this is what I am wondering. If collectors are saying that O-ring Joes are a step back, then why are Retro DC Mego figures cool? Wouldn't those be a "step back" compared to the really cool & detailed DCUC figures now?

i saw the Megos style DC dolls... if they had a nostalgic price included with their nostalgic look I might have bought one... Being a larger size toy I might find a place to put it on display one, but not at that price.

See, when I was a kid, Mego "was" the toy line. Mego made Marvel, DC, Planet of the Apes, Dukes of Hazzard, Star Trek and even Chips! You could have Spiderman and Batman team up to stop the evil plot hatched by Boss Hogg and Dr. Zaius.
Mego's have fantastic articulation and cloth costumes. They exude "Fun!" As a matter of fact, had Mego picked up the Star Wars license (instead of passing on it), they might have still been around today. Now I know it's a matter of opinion, but I just think Megos are miles above O-Ring Joes. Then again I may be a bit older as Megos were my early toys and O-Ring Joes were others. Now if I only had a choice between say the DC Direct 13 inch Batman and Mego batman, I'd pick the 13 inch. However, since I've got the 13 inch already (along with "I lost count how many Batman figures I own), I want a Mego batman as well. And a Superman wouldn't hurt either. BTW- Cant wait until the Venture Bros Megos come out, Batman's totally gonna rock the Monarch's face.
