I have a 1984 Cobra Rattler that has had its front landing gear snapped off above the wheels. I have a replacement unit and was wondering how to swap it out with the broken one. Does the fuselage have to be split apart to gain access or is there an easier way for replacement?

Here are a few pix of the underside of the fuselage (front landing.) My camera doesn't focus well that close. When I looked at the blue prints, it appears that the wheel assembly is already attached coming out of the box. I might have to rip the aircraft apart to replace the part.

I do believe you have to take the fuselage apart. It's been years since I restored mine and I want to say it was about as hard as taking a Fang apart. I seem to recall having to take the nose off and a round part at the rear of the fuselage, then pry very hard (There is a big chance that this will also damage your Rattler)
Maybe you'll be able to just pry it enough to slip the old gear out without actually pulling the whole fuselage apart |

I found a way
You can carefully pry open the fuselage then use smthn as a wedge to keep it open. This leaves enough gap to swap the nosewheel. Beware of stretchmarks though, the plastic where to wedge it open is very thin... |

I welded mine with a heated mini screwdriver. Then I lubed the contact points with baby oil. Still scary to open or close it, but I haven't re-
broken it yet. |

My original Rattler had the front landing gear break in the same place as the one shown here. Since I had a junk Rattler, I took off the landing gear from that one and replaced the broken one on my good Rattler. I used the same “wedge” method mentioned by the OP and it worked great.
