Maybe someone could set the record straight for me. Despite the many ARAH era toys I had, growing up; I never had the Snake Armor. Wasn't the Snake Armor in the animated series always a robot (ref. "Arise Serpenter Arise")? I haven't been one for reading the comics, so I have no idea. I ask because the toys (the original and the current ROC version) have an operator.

Even in the MASS Device they were unmanned robots. I always remembered the commercial where it opens up to fit a figure though.

Correct, they were robots in the Sunbow cartoons but manned for the toy line. Maybe Hasbro figured they'd sell better if you could put figures in them and they are probably cheaper and easier to make since there is nothing inside of them, just thin molds of plastic that snap together.

I don't know either, but it's more fun with a fig, and I KNOW that! You know all about what "knowing" is.....................

I remember that too! I have nothing against the toy version, but if the toy design was more of a robot, the toy could have been slightly larger and MORE articulation.

callmechuckles: ........."half the battle"? LMFAO!!!!!
I'm sure adding a figure to it does make it more appealing. But, I wasn't a big fan of the tou because of the limited articulation. However, I did enjoy watching them in the cartoon. |

That always confused me as a kid. Now though I know that in the comics it was manned. Snake-eyes and Kwinn were maybe the first 2 to be put into it. Read the fluff on the box, the idea is that there is some kind of neural computer that makes the person in the suit evil. Rather round about way of getting the job done.

Yeah, you don't want Cobras going to order Burger King or challenging Manny Pacquino to some kind of robot/cobra duel.,

cdtweasel: that was the clarification I was looking for. I never knew if the Armor was ever armor for the cobra troops or just simply a robot.

It was supposed to be either way.
You can put a figure in it and have him wear it as powered body armor. OR: You could have it go pilotless as a preprogrammed Robot. Kind of like The Battle Android Troopers introduced in 1986. OR: In the Marvel Comics they captured Snake Eyes and put him in it. Then they programed it to attack the Joe Headquarters hoping that the Joe team would destroy it and un-knowingly kill Snake Eyes. In the Cartoon they were always used as attack robots Tankers are the Best Joe Fans!!
