Today we have clear Wraiths, City Strike Snake Eyes, Kamakura, and Nano Vipers to search the world for. It was even tougher back in the day. Who did you have a hard time getting?

Honestly, the waves lasted a lot longer...so none were very hard to find. Back in the day you were lucky to get two waves a year.

Their were several I can remember, I did not actually seriously collect G.I. Joe until 1988. I remember Toxo-Viper II first proved difficult to find for me because they only carried Eco-Warriors at TRU. For the longest time I remember trying to find Firefly 1992which I later discovered that part of the series was split up while one half came out in fall the other came out in the spring and he appeared in my Easter basket that year.

GI Joe was very popular in my area. There were some guys that warmed the pegs all year (Short Fuse, Doc, Stalker, and Chuckles are some of the ones I remember). Others you never saw, and questioned their very existance. Vehicles, however, were easy then.

Beachhead and Dial-Tone were NEVER found in my home town. I had despaired about finding 'em, then on vacation in Maine, I found them at a store there. Had to beg and plead my mother to get 'em for me.

I started regularly buying Joes in 87, and I managed to snag a BAT but I never did see a Viper on the pegs.

Hmm, now that I think of it-while no single figures were hard for me to find- I only saw Zartan a handful of times.

There was a department store in Shelby, NC called Sky City that no one went in. I found Zartan and the Rattler there that year. They never had many figures, though.

If you can believe this...I never had a Snake Eyes until Ninja Force and my only Storm Shadow was the orignal 84 in all his badassery.
You couldnt find either charecter around these parts if your life depended on it, and I searched regularly. Every single Christmas and birthday I regularly asked for both figures. This is probably why I am such a nut for both charecters now. Because the department stores dissapointed me while Sunbow and Marvel dangled them in front of my face.....well whooooooooose laughin now! |
