Thanks hun, I guess being at the beginning helps me to understand that Hasbro Has always strived to be green and recycle.

Even back in '82 with the first Joes, I was well aware that this was going on. Then, strangely enough, I became totally oblivious to it as the '80s rolled on. Last night I was looking through a bunch of of the old yearly catalog pamphlets. I was surprised to be able to recognize so many repaints throughout the line.

How deep does the repaint and body part swap rabbit hole go? When did Hasbro start this practice?
Well if we look back to the beginning of the GI Joe ARAH in 1982 we can see just how many repaints and retools have been made. The entire line was riddled with repaints. Yet even now when I look back I can see the pattern that so many collectors today hate, forming. There is a history of Hasbro making figures by repainting and body part swapping. Almost every figure in the original 13 where a repaint and swap of another figure. There are six acceptions being Scarlet who is a completely original figure, Stalkers head, Snake Eyes head, Clutches Torso, Steelers torso, and Rock N' Roll's torso. The rest of the original 13 are a who's, who of parts swaps. Why did they do this and why are they still doing it today? The answer, profit. Why make completely new molds for every figure when you can save time and money by just repainting and body part swapping. We all need to remember that Hasbro is a toy company and as such the more toys they sell the higher their profit rises. The more money they make the better it is for us because the line will be around longer. So to wrap this up, bellow are a few pictures I have taken of my original 13 GI Joes. Take a look and I hope you enjoy. Oh, I forgot to mention they are all strait armed figures accept for Steeler. Samantha As the line progressed it became more of a hit, and they were given more money to play with because the lines been doing well. they could budget more new sculpts. Same with the 25th line they tested the waters with it became a hit and they were able to afford more stuff, and it has progressivly gotten more money behind it with the movie stuff wich has a bigger budget to work with. Which had proved it'self and is going into POC line. he inverse has happened as well like during the Valor vs Venom days leading into the direct consumer line which didn't have much new tooling cause it wasn't doing that great and the line was cancled. |

I see your point and yes the budget is a huge factor in making repaints and body part swaps AKA (R&BPS).

I have no problems with repaints. If I don't like it I just don't buy it, but the repaints in the Roc lineup is more favorable than the originals IMO. Sgt.Stone, Gen. Hawk, Grunt.

It's funny, but I've been pretty oblivious to the repaints until the 25th/ME stuff came out. I remember the day that I realized that Beachhead and Firefly had the same body. Until that point, I hadn't really gotten into customizing, but when I figured this out, customizing became less scary to me. So, I don't mind repaints, because I end up repainting anyway.
