I noticed that some (most) joes have their SNs with an "RA" prefix.
But a few have no "RA" (Bazooka, Shipwreck, etc.) Is there any significance to these letters? *Should* those joes have the RA prefix as well (but was just left off accidentally?) |

Not sure if there's any significance or not.

"RA" stands for "Regular US Army" "MC" stood for Marine Corps (check out Gung-Ho's original filecard). "RN" (like in Torpedo's original filecard) stands for "Regular US Navy" (although they goofed with Deep-Six). "AF" stood for Air Force (see Ace's original filecard).
At some later point though, they dropped the convention and it started being pretty random. Last edited by zuludelta; 08-18-2009 at 12:27 AM.. |

The RA (Regular Army) prefix means that joe is a non-drafted volunteer.

This article explains what the service number prefixes mean:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Service...s_armed_forces) The MC & RN prefixes only exist in the GI Joe universe, but RA & AF are real service number prefixes. |

A cursory check over at Yojoe.com seems to indicate that they stopped using the service number prefixes in 1985. I wonder why.

This the most file card related discussion I've seen in a long time, and it's not even on the file card thread. Interesting question. Great answers. Just funny that it's in a separate thread.
By the way Zulu, we miss you over there. You should stop by and see us more often.
