Wanting to put my theory of the floor mats to test....it worked. The mats are 2ft x 2ft, overall length is 10 feet (rear 6 tiles x 2 tiles)/ (front section is 4ft long x 3 ft wide or 1.5 tiles in width) I taped off a runway and the two xp-14 skystrikers fit side by side with no problem, wing tips dont touch but its close.
Here's the best part, since its modular, you can set up the FLAGG any way you want. Wanna make it a HELO Carrier, take off the tiles on one side and it becomes a 2 foot wide shelf with you deciding how long you really want it to be. Only have 6 ft of wall, done-just reconfigure the tiles.
The tiles fit together with a saw tooth pattern, make it a universal pattern altogether and the re-configurations are even more.
The tiles are safe to walk on and fit together snuggly, they provide a nice even surface provided no one starts picking at the rubber. Size, Wt and Cost all solved as far as the FLIGHT DECK is concerned. Add in a new superstructure, well, that's another Im working on. Generic wall pieces that slide and lock together. It may be more blocky looking but it sure would be fun to put together. Anyways, just food for thought.

Year 1: Piece 1 will be super easy to find.
Year 2: Sales for year 1 will taken into account and production of piece 2 will be less than piece 1. Piece 2 will be much harder to find, but not impossible.
Year 3: By the time we reach the final piece, probably the main tower, the concept will either be scrapped or the piece will be produced in such small numbers that it will be impossible to find. Most of us will have to resort to Ebay and scalper prices.
After the ''Best Of'' DVD fiasco, I don't trust Hasbro or the retailers to do it right. Sorry. :-/
I'm not knocking your idea. I just don't think it's realistic to expect kids (and collectors) to wait three years to complete their toy. Most of the ones that have piece 1 will have outgrown Joes by the time piece 3 comes around. Not to mention that these big-budget movies usually have 2-3 years between them, so now we're talking more like 5-7 years to complete the Flagg.

There has yet to be a successful example of a "build a playset" from any line, much less anything remotely on the scale of the Joe Flagg.
People suggesting the "Build a Flagg" are also forgetting one key component of "build a whatever" gimmicks...they're secondary to the primary product being sold. They're "value added" items not the items themselves.
Parents aren't likely to shell out $50+ for an unfinished product, and adding a vehicle with enough "substance" to warrant outweighing the (rather large, presumably) playset piece that comes with it would drive the price up even further.
Believe me, if Hasbro thought this idea was feasible, they'd have done it years ago with a "build a Death Star" for the Star Wars line. It's not as if the "build a playset" idea hasn't been proposed to Hasbro in the past. It has, many times across many different lines. Something in the mountains of data and number-crunching that Hasbro has at their disposal tells them "not a good/feasible/profitable idea."
Sounds great on paper, but the reality would likely result in serious problems down the line (as noted, when the final piece(s) become impossible to find or are never produced due to poor reception of the initial pieces).

No for the same reason I never bought the original one. I'd have nowhere to put something that big. However, if I was quite a bit better off and had a huge house where I could dedicate entire rooms to my various collecting urges you can be certain one of those rooms would be for my Joe stuff and its centerpiece would be a pair of the original Flagg and the new version.
