Agreed, i should clarify that they didn't look right alongside the NS figures. Also agreed on the comic packs- i quite liked a few, the females generally fared better, and the hooded CC's head sculpt was an improvement (albeit unnecessary- I liked Battle Corps CC's head fine). I think that particular subset would've been better if they'd have not tried to achieve a "comic" look with those heads and just settled on altered colorways.
The 6ers were also a bit mixed- the Cobra blueshirt pack for example had a crappy loadout, and the new heads made them stand out from the old too much, though the mixed ethnicity and hair colors as well as the scarfaced officer balanced that out nicely. The sheer abundance of the 84 Firefly mold also drove me a bit batshit- I love that mold, but I was happy to see it exactly twice: the original urban and 2000 woodland camo versions. And don't even get me started on Ninja Force SS... Back to the under-appreciation of new sculpt, all of this has me thinking I may need to build a new shelving unit. I'll probably stay away from most of JvC and ST, but Valor vs Venom did have some decent figures. Last edited by Sataninjaku; 05-27-2020 at 04:20 PM.. |

I love the Cobra Ninja Strike pack from the Valor vs Venom days, but mostly just for the awesome packaging and it was a cheap way of basically getting vintage sculpts. I didn't like the individual figures from those days, with the jacked shoulders and uninteresting weapons. All the Cobras looked the same. Viper, Ninja, Creeper, Coil, whatever...

I really liked Recondo (both versions), Chief Torpedo, NF Grunt, NF Gung-Ho, Hi-Tech, Hard Drive, Cross-Hair (probably the best figure from that era), Barrel Roll, the Humvee drivers (Duke/Rollbar), Python-Patrol Viper, PP Televiper, Destro with the gray jacket, BATs, Sand Scorpion, Firefly v10, Duke v20, Snake-Eyes v23 (he was always in the flight pod of my Sky Sweeper), Sgt. Airborne (the pilot of the sky sweeper), Snow-Wolf and Swamp Rat. Those are they figs from that era that I vividly recall using in my joe-verse back then and I still think highly of them although I have no desire to re-acquire them. I always like Red-Spot (thought his camo was cool) and Sgt. Bazooka (and the Quickstrike) but could never find them back at retail. Those along with never getting a Thunderwing Jet are the biggest regrets I have from that era. I did get a Pirahna attack boat a few years ago and it was a big let down for me. I hated the oversized engine - it just killed that boat for me and I got rid of it.
Sataninjaku - Now you have me going through my comic book figures and I am going to get rid of some lol. I just went through my Joes earlier to take inventory and I realize I have some work to do in the figure department. After going through my comic book figs I don't feel that same connection as I did going through my vintage Joes earlier today so some will have to go. I do agree with all the Firefly releases - the Woodland Camo is my all time fav version and they really killed the allure and mystery of that figure to me as the constantly re-used it during that era. The Comic Book Pack version is pretty great too though - A really nice update to the original IMO but I could of done without all the rest of them. |

Depending on what you've got in the way of the comic packs, drop me a line if you decide to pull that trigger. I'm buying all eras of the ARAH molds at the moment, even the weaker ones ( I did just get TBC Stalker today, after all. Love that "Ninja Turtles" grimace!) |

DTC were pretty similar - I had Salvo, Footloose, Mutt, Spirit, CG, Snow Serpent (he was another really great figure), Low-Light, Med Alert, Grand Slam and SAW Viper. Snow Serpent and Saw Viper were probably the two best cobra figures from that whole era. You can see some of the flaws in the figs though - long legs/short torsos on a few, Scrap Iron was pretty bad - looked like Capt America but the ones I had I felt were pretty decent and I viewed alot of them in the same way I did figures from my previous post that I liked. I just forgot to through DTC in with my original post.

I have started picking up the figures from that time period. Some were weak, and some were really good. I really wish that I had picked up the Snake Eyes, Stalker, and Tommy Vietnam 3 pack and the Oktober Guard figures when they originally came out.

The only 2000's era ARAH figures I collected were the underrated comic packs - from either the '80's/early '90's Marvel comic, or the newer Joe comics. Overall, these were excellent Joe figures, and I liked the fact that they included 3 figures here so you were getting a lot for the $. And, it's obvious that some of these figures were obscure enough that they would never have been made if not for these packs.
My favorite was probably the Vietnam-era pack with Stalker, Snake-Eyes, and Storm Shadow. The level of detail here was amazing; it was an especially nice touch for Snake-Eyes to have the picture of his sister in his hat-band, just like in the Marvel comic - very cool. Also liked the two?! Oktober guard packs; the pack with Scrap Iron, Serpentor, and Firefly (excellent versions of all these characters), and the Lady Jaye w/two Cobra Troopers pack. I remember getting most/all of these at either the now-defunct Toys R' Us, or Wal-mart. Good memories. Last edited by Doctor Venom; 05-29-2020 at 08:46 PM.. |

I loved cross hairs & iron grenadiers as my top 2 favorites of this era.
But this era didn't just give pretty cool figures but characters with some decent stories. The Stalls & Kamakura were pretty interesting. I wish they did more with Dart & Red Spot to name two. |
