well, not in Marvel US stories. They do appear in Marvel UK's "Action Force" weekly and monthly titles, the latter of which was published in the US as GI Joe: European Missions.

I didn't recall this either - crazy! I actually re-read the series a few years back for the first time in a long time, and I was surprised at how many characters just made maybe one or two appearances.

With as awesome as the Snow Serpent is (a V.1 fig is next on my quarantine shopping list) you'd think they would have been in some issues. I haven't read every issue of the OG Marvel run, so I didn't know that they weren't in any issues until now. So many possibilities...so many artic adventures the Joes could have had pitted against the Snow Serpents.

it's especially bizarre since there was a story ("Cold Snap") set in an arctic environment that used the Ice-Viper and WOLF, Iceberg and Frostbite and the Snowcat and the rest of the Cobra forces were made of WORMS driving Maggots and HISS tanks with blue-shirts and Techno-Vipers in the WOLFs.

I loved Blizzard as a kid, but yeah, the sled didn't really work. I actually modified my FSS Blizzard and I think the helmet looks better on him because of the larger size of the figures. Here's a couple of pics:
I modified the vintage backpack so the new FSS gear can fit on it. Can also go simple and go with the vintage backpack look too Yeah, he'd still freeze his mouth, but at least he has a huge jacket so you can pretend he can cover his mouth with his jacket. I always hated how ridiculously big his helmet looked though. At least using it on the new style figure with the really big jacket makes helmet look less oversized. Got more pics of him in here: http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...zard-mods.html

Blizzard holds something of a dubious distinction for me - the last G.I.Joe figure I ever purchased. I would have gotten him shortly before I turned 12 - I recall being excited about the '88 wave, but at that point my heart just wasn't in it anymore, bought him more out of habit, and then that was it.
I've always been partial to arctic figures though, so while there were some cool figures in '88, I knew I was starting with Blizzard. I think the design is great, but as everyone else has mentioned...that helmet! I actually distinctly recall standing in the store thinking "that helmet looks really big...I bet it will look more like the picture when it's on him". Nope, it sure did not - you'd think they could have made it sort of like the older helmets that were thin and snapped right on, but I guess not. I might try to dig the guy out and get some action photos (we still have snow here, so I've got a week or two). Thanks for starting a thread about him - a character that holds a significant part of my Joe history. |

I've gotta say, after this thread, he's kind growing on me. Not the helmet or the sled, but the figure itself is pretty cool.
