There's been a bunch of discussion over the years on this subject.
some were rumored to have been destroyed, others were sold to non-US based manufacturers, some might currently be housing crustaceans, and I'm sure others just plain degraded from neglect, etc. Point is, it's always interested me, and there's been yet more discussion on the subject over the past day or so thanks to the announcement of a "retro" line, and what that might mean. Now, I'm by no means an industry insider, nor am I by any means any sort of authority on the topic. Just like most of you, I'm but a lowly collector. What I DO have is too much time on my hands and a fascination with trivial, pointless bullshit! Soooooo..... I've made a list of every (?) figure and part based on the original molds that saw action from the 1997 TRU release through the 2010 convention figures, which (I think) is the last time Hasbro used them. The purpose here is to take a look at what's potentially already available for use in a new line without having to produce new molds. Granted, some of these may have also gone the way of the dodo, it has been more than 20 years for a few of them, but even 50-75% of this list would be good for a couple of waves. And hell, this whole thing could be pointless anyway, as Hasbro might be completely redoing these from the ground up like their other retro lines... or it could be something completely different from what most of us think it is. There's a good chance I've missed something, and it's also possible that figures may end up on both the "parts" and "full figure" lists (this was a copy/paste nightmare), if so, point it out and I'll edit as needed. Lastly, I haven't gotten around to anything but the figures (yet), and parts/figures being labeled "missing" or left out entirely of course doesn't mean it's gone, just that it didn't get any use from 97-10. |

It seems to me, there isn't much they couldn't make depending on the viability of the molds.

Does anyone know about vehicle tooling? I don’t think the wolverine/lynx or the APC were ever reissued post-2000. I know the Mauler is gone, but I’d like to see some of these:
Wolverine Lynx Bridge Layer Mountain Howitzer APC Snowcat And maybe some of the little sets like the Forward Observer, bivouac, missile defense, etc

Great list! Thanks for putting that all together. Alot more there than I thought there was.
I think you missed some parts, 82-84 Cobra Commander's waist was used with the Club Convention Rip-It figure. And on the 82 Cobra Officer and Trooper you didn't list the waist. While the comic pack versions of them didn't use it, the "blue shirt" six pack did have the original waist. There was an interesting story about that too, which sadly I don't remember all of it now. But something about the mold was mislabeled and a fan mentioned to Hasbro to look for the Python Officer/Trooper molds. And they found the missing waist. Also the 86 BAT, only the lower arms, head and waist/legs are or were still around. The club couldn't find the torso. And on 86 Roadblock Hasbro used those legs a couple of times since 97. I think you might have left a couple of the complete figures out. 83 Hawk 83 Short-Fuze 83 Zap 83 Grunt 83 Stalker The HISS Driver is complete. Hasbro just didn't put the parts together. Although I think those Rip-It figures came out before they found the waist and used it in the blue shirt set. |

The Zap/Short Fuse torso appeared in 1997's Star and Stripes Forever, but the 2005 comic pack used a recreated mold. That implies the original went MIA.
Also the Urban Strike Division/Comic pack Scrap Iron used recasted parts, despite most of the original figure having been used by Funskool. Likewise the Anti-Venom Mutt used recasted parts. Comic Pack Lady Jaye was a remade mold for some reason. |

remember the planned releases they had created like the 83 cobra
commander, and 85 snake eyes for the 1997 release? I saw a pic of unproduced figures so maybe the molds are still available for the retro line
