I've been away from Joe collecting for a quite a few years now. I only collected O-Ring Figures, but I did enjoy the newer Vehicles styled after the vintage ones so I bought those. But after a while with nothing new coming out I just enjoyed what I had, and I didn't look at buying anything else. But here in the last month or so I started wanting to see about getting some things I didn't have that I always wanted, and maybe Army build some more. But when I went to e-Bay I was SHOCKED, the prices for Joes have went CRAZY HIGH. Most of the Figures on there are at BIN's with few Auctions, and the BIN's are way to high IMO. Do people pay these prices, or are these sellers just wishing with their BIN prices?

A little of both. The buy it now prices tend to be way up, looking at the ones that actually sold are a bit better. That being said, things have jumped considerably over the last few years, not just for Joes but vintage toys in general. I only got back into o-rings about 5 years ago and things were still pretty stable at that point. With only a modicum of patience, I scored most of the big hitters like Snake Eyes v.1 and 2, Storm Shadow, Both Cobra Commanders etc... for under 40 each. I argue that the Netflix “Toys that Made Us” was a point where a lot of dudes got nostalgic and decided to jump back in, driving prices through the roof. The 80’s generation are at the zenith of their economic potential (most are established and well advanced in careers and still a ways from retirement) that don’t need to worry about it and can just drop whatever is asked to not waste time.
Maybe I am overthinking it, though... lol

People do pay those prices all the time. I don’t, but a lot of folks do as those are just considered the going rates nowadays.

I'll add that the proliferation of the internet in general has been responsible, with youtube toy channels and other social media being at fault. The same has happened in the retro gaming community. In fact, some gaming youtubers put out "hidden gems" videos, and whenever one is released, the price will soar at least temporarily, whether the game is good or not. There's been a lot of talk as to whether or not the youtubers are trying to artificially inflate the value of their collections/inventory, which makes a ton of sense. More exposure=more people feeling nostalgic, which of course leads to supply/demand at work.
With GIJoe specifically, I bought online from 2000-2012ish, and the prices were fairly static, with some peaks and valleys here and there (there are of course exceptions, a '92 Ninja Viper for example did nothing but climb), though prices largely tumbled during the Modern Era. Fast forward to just this past year, and I've recently dumped a large portion of my collection. I was shocked at what some of the ARAH figures were selling for. $30 for an 86 Viper that I found with some patience at $11 or 12 and always said I'd never pay over $15 for is nuts, and don't even get me started on some of the pricier figures. I'm with Ozzie 100% on the bubble bursting with the potential production of a new proper 4" line, as I've already seen it. I also with the statement in regards to the prices falling over the next decade, we're getting older, and soon there will be few of us left around to care about collecting them. A ton of collectors will "cash in" on their investments, which is currently happening with the original 12" line.

I talked to a vintage toy store owner last month and she told GI Joe prices will probably be like this for another 10-20 years. Mainly due to kids who grew up with them are older and established now and want to rekindle their childhood.

I figure the prices are here to stay for a while to, so I'll just be keeping what I have. I remember buying the army builder type Cobra Figures for around $10, and that was with all their gear & a file card! That was in the early 2000's, and that was the normal price. And when Black Major first came out with his Cobra Troopers I was getting them for around $5 to $7 dollars, and now they sell for triple that or more especially the rare ones. I Army Built a lot of the Cobra Figures from the Collectors edition sets the V v/s V line & the GI Joe v/s Cobra sets, and those were always around $2 to $5, and sometimes you could buy more for even better prices. I know I bought a lot of the 04 Comic Pack Cobra Troopers, and I got really good deals on those. And I ended up with over 100 of those guys, and now those Troopers plus all the other early figures from those lines have jumped way up in price. I understand the 80's/90's Joes selling high, but the early to mid 2000's aren't far behind in price. The Blue Shock Viper from 02 is another figure I bought up when I could, and I got those for good prices. I bought around 20 or so from a guy in China for I think around $5 each, and now those sell for BIG $$$..
