Hey all. New to this forum. Couple of questions that a quick scan of the threads didn't uncover.
I used to be deep into collecting MOC figures in the 83-86 range back when you could pick up non-marquee figs for $30-50 on eBay. Clearly that is not the case anymore. Turns out my collection is worth more than I thought it was. Looking for some opinions. 1) Is AFA grade worth it? I have some very nice unpunched MOCs. Would it bring, say, a $200 fig into the $400 range? Basically enough to offset the cost of grading plus some? I'm not looking to flip this stuff but definitely into increasing it's value 2) I have some holes in my collection. Is there a good non-eBay source for MOC figs from this era? 3) Any recs on acrylic cases for figs of this era? I have some old star cases but they're starting to yellow and don't display that well. THANKS! |

As far as filling holes in your collection, just my personal opinion but if you are OK with repros that is a more cost effective way of doing so. I really like the way they look brand new. I’d suggest picking up a kit and trying one out to see what you think.

IMO, AFA is a buncha bulldung and not worth it. Items are worth what someone is willing to pay for it and AFA is just someone trying to make money out of convincing people that sticking a figure in a plastic box and a grade sticker on it makes it "worth more".

1. I would say yes if you are looking to increase value. Although some people dont care about it, I would say the market has spoken that solid afa graded stuff sells for more than solid not graded stuff.
2. Conventions, local antique toy stores, and there are some online retailers. Ebay has the most stuff tho the easiest to find. 3. Not sure |

THANKS! personally speaking, the AFA always just looked like a very expensive protective case. sure, it's nice to get an official grade, but i think it's unnecessary. for display, if you have the means, custom built plexiglass or glass faced shelving looks really nice. if you're storing them, as far as i know, the star cases are your best bet.
