How about a foam drink cooler? I hear some folks use those as shipping containers for fragile items since they're pretty rugged, won't crush easily in transit, are lightweight for the protection offered, and cheap. I don't know if you'll be able to find a cooler large enough to contain everything at once, even if you have to split the portions of the set up among different coolers, at least it's an option.

Oh no hard feelings. This was well-deserved. Good morning, everyone! I'm glad to see someone competent showed up to help!

Thank you for your help! That was a lot to type and I appreciate your time! My next question would be since all of that is so fragile, especially to take apart....how terrible would it be if I didn’t take anything apart and just used lots of bubble wrap and styrofoam? And really protected those fragile pieces?
Make sure the two shuttles are not inside, make sure you put something under the gantry's wheels so they are somewhat suspended in the air. I would NOT try to take them off.

Definitely try to take off the doors. These are notoriously fragile and will most likely break if not removed during the moved. Or I would put it in the passenger seat buckled in like a fragile three year old

I was thinking of building a box but I was more hoping I could use an razor blade or hand saw or scirssors to build one than anything electric. I do have a sliding miter saw but I’ve been too scared to ever use it. Haha. But in all serious I’m pretty handy I just would prefer hand tools. But that being said, I could cut a 2x2 by hand. But what did they do for a bottom just cardboard? I was hoping for something I don’t cut my arm off doing. The movers want $500 to have a custom crate for it. And with that they just want to build a wooden box and stick it in. They wouldn’t be protecting it in anyway. So I felt like I can do better for cheaper. But I’m still stuck on the box stage. I found a large outdoor rubbermade type deck box that it could fit inside but I’m not sure about it supporting the weight of the Defiant when the movers go to pick it up?
As others have said, one key thing would be to support the Defiant by the frame and not let it rest on the wheels. The couple I have ever seen for sale in collectibles shops even displayed them with something under them to keep stress off the wheels.

Congratulations on being an understanding and supportive enough wife to even look up and research how to protect and ship this thing for your husband.

Ok so we are moving halfway across the US. The movers come soon and my husband has a defiant that I need to box up. Any tips to help me out? My life is on the line with this thing. My husband was even contemplating flying back just to box the thing up. I have no clue (and I mean NO clue) about any of the names of the pieces when I read the previous threads about taking this Snazamajig off and that Snazamajig off...so maybe laymen’s terms would be appreciated. I bought bubble wrap. Lots of it. And packing peanuts. I can’t find a dang box anywhere. I was thinking of trying to find a piece of storage furniture to put it in (so hey if I’m spending money to box the darn thing up...I might as well get something for myself out of it afterwards) but even that is proving difficult as every cute piece of furniture isn’t wide enough. But maybe if I take a certain Snazamajig off then I can condense the monstrosity. Any tips? I know my husband would appreciate your kind help as he treats this thing like it’s a baby. I should probably pack a bottle with it. Maybe even make a bubble wrap diaper for it. Just kidding but this post is serious. I need some help.
PS I did read the blue doors (even I can understand that term) can shatter. So how do you take them off? PSS Just trying to answer those questions to make a profile to post proved very difficult....My husband should be proud. If you aren't moving too far I would rent a pickup if you don't have one. That sounds excessive but the price of even a used Defiant in decent shape is in the thousands of dollars. Last edited by Dusty Ayers; 04-06-2019 at 10:56 AM.. |
