So I've got a trio of old Shadow Ninjas my brother used to have. The colors on all 3 of them have faded pretty badly, Slice in particular. Is this a known thing? I realize that color changing features tend to stop working eventually, but this is not quite what I expected.
I tried soaking Slice in warm water just to see what would happen, and he's turning...pink. I'm not sure how one goes from "green" to "pink", but maybe he's colorblind or something. Also, thumb breakage is a common thing on these, right? The plastic seems a bit more brittle than usual, and the weapons seem a little bit fatter than normal. Every Shadow Ninja we owned (4 or 5 total) had one or both thumbs break. These guys are otherwise in reasonable shape apart from slightly loose knees, so I'm trying to decide if I want to salvage them, and how to go about doing it. We never really liked these guys due to the thumbs constantly breaking, so they aren't my highest priority.

'Inviso power' is designed to activate in warm water, so try putting the figure in ice water to return to it's original colour, although after 24 years it's likely to have faded on many figures. I'd say they're difficult to salvage since you can't take them apart with a simple twist of a back screw, like any ninja force figure. I've heard of it being done, but since in their guts they have all those mechanisms to allow them to do clotheslines and karate kicks it can be really finicky to get them back together again to make them work. It seems few have survived with both thumbs intact. And since these were made at the end of the line, fewer overall figures were manufactured compared to 80's joes, so it's quite difficult to get these figures complete and intact on the secondary market. I know Bellomo's Ultimate Guide has in it's price guide each figure commanding only about a $6-$8 price point in his 2nd edition, I wonder what he has listed the prices for in his recent 3rd edition?

I put Slice in the freezer overnight to see what would happen, but the answer was "not much"; he just turned very slightly more green than he was before. I guess I should try with Snake Eyes and Nunchuck too.
The mechanisms and most of the joints on these are fine; the O-rings are all intact. There's a couple loose-ish knees, but that's an easy fix. They're really not in bad shape otherwise; the only places they really need "salvaging" are the hands and color loss. I don't know if I'd want to try painting them into an approximation of the original color, even though I honestly don't really care about the color-change feature. Has anybody out there ever made replacement forearms, or hands to graft onto existing forearms? Something using material with a little bit more "give"? Is it really even feasible to de-rivet an elbow for the purpose of removing a forearm for casting and/or replacing?

To fix the thumb just insert a red hot pin into the stub of the thumb, let it cool down and cut to length . Then you remodel the thumb with milliput and paint when finished . If you do a search on YouTube there are multiple tutorials on how to repairs like this .
