So I ended up buying this big box of hollowed out vehicles and have a shell of a killer whale. The only problem is the tabs are broke on the front that hold the ramps. Whats it good for with those broke? Ideas?

Use it as a reef/decoration for a fish tank.

My original came with that broken out of the box. I just always displayed my Whale with the ramp closed...haha. One tab of the sled door was broken too.

I was really hoping that wasnt going to be the answers. I could probably glue a sled door on it, leave the ramp off and make it a custom cobra vehicle. Or use some of the tannerite I got and blow it up!

Well, that was when I was a kid. I'm sure if I was faced with the same situation, I would be able to come up with a way to make it functional again. It's just how much work you want to put in.
For example, this True Heroes Badger only had opening hatch for the gunner. The one beside the gunner, I cut it off and made a custom hinge for it to be functional so now it holds the full complement of 3 crew members.

thats really nice. since im still new im not quite versed yet in adding hinges and such, that and a lack of spare parts. I hate to destroy it cause its a whale ya know, seems like such a waste. I'll probably hang on to it for now till I come up with something.

I've restored 4 whales with only 1 of them having the ramp tabs intact so I came up with an interesting solution to the problem.
I noticed that the small nub on the ramp that attatches into the hinge was the exact size as the round opening in a small cotterpin from a bag of small sized ones I bought for a home repair project. I drilled a couple of small holes in the shell of the whale at the place where the hinge should have been. It was then just a matter of opening the end of the pin ever so slightly and easing it into the holes I made. I was pleasantly surprised at how easily the ramp opens and closes and the chrome of the pins looks kinda cool. I've attached a photo. This is the first whale I restored. As you can see there's 2 pins in this one. I misjudged the hole placement a bit and shoved a second pin in there to hold everything in place. |
