I'm keeping the $$$ in PayPal until I get a shipping confirmation that it arrived at the New Jersey location, just in case.
From now on I will put a disclaimer that I WILL NOT ship to a shipping company. Too nervous!

Agreed. Outside of EBay I have no problem with shipping to most places internationally, but Ebays policies can really screw you over when it comes to bad buyers.

I think that is a solid plan, Xero. I'll probably do the same going forward. Does eBay fully credit for fees incurred if you cancel a sale?

They didn't for me, when it was the buyer who 'butt' purchased all the way through the transaction and paid. Immediately, he asked for a reversal cause somehow this all happened while the phone was in his pocket.
I had to fight Paypal to get back the $0.50 in fees they shorted me.

Funny I found this thread because I was coming in here to ask a question about something I want to list on ebay.
I used to be here ALL the time. I lived in the "General Forum" for YEARS and we all knew each other over there. There were 3 of us from Maine in there at one point. Anyway..... As one who buys and sells on ebay and has since 1999, I absolutely HATE when I buy something and the seller doesnt leave me feedback. As a buyer, immediate payment should garner feedback. THATS how it always USED to work. In the last 5 months Ive sold 85 items. The only reason I know that is, when I started listing all my Joes for sale I put on 90 at once and have 5 left. That was the end of June. When I sell an item, if the person has a lot of feedback, I leave feedback as soon as they pay. If they have low feedback I look at it and see if its 100% and then see if theyre leaving feedback for their sellers. If they are, I leave feedback. If they dont leave me feedback within a few days of receiving their item Ill message them and let them know I left them feedback and Id appreciate it if theyd do the same for me. Ive have 4 or 5 people not leave me feedback. Sucks, but oh well. I have 907 individual feedbacks left for me with a 100% rating. As a buyer, if Im not left feedback immediately then when I receive the item I message the seller to let them know it arrived, its great and if they leave feedback Ill do the same. I NEVER leave feedback first and I absolutely refuse to as a buyer. Ive only left negative a few times and it was in the early days when there were LOTS of scammers. I've only had a couple problems as a seller in recent years: Back in June I shipped a $150 dollar Joe USPS Priority Insured. It never arrived. 5 months later its still showing "In Transit" from the second hub on its journey. The buyer filed a claim through ebay and apparently, even though he had insurance and I shipped it, it was my fault and ebay took the money out of my account. Complete BS. The second time I had an issue was over an expensive figure that I made an honest mistake in the listing and offered to give the buyer a 100% refund and cover his return shipping. All he wanted was a discount and to keep the figure. He never left me feedback as he was just trying to scam me. Had I not made a mistake in the listing, it still would have sold for the same price and fast, and he knew it. I dont ship overseas. Back around 2005ish I had problems with things getting "lost" and I just stopped offering it. I know nothing about overseas shipping, I dont care to look into it and its just one less hassle I deal with. Ebay is awesome and sucks at the same time. You can find great deals on there, literally anything you want, and most of the time there are no issues. Problem is, when there is a real issue, someones going to get screwed, and its not usually the person who deserves it. |

As a seller I NEVER leave feedback first. In the past I've had some fools try to scam me in claiming the item I sent was broken etc. Sellers used to be able to leave negative feedback back then. Plus some buyers think feedback is the place to "solve" a problem rather than messaging.
As a buyer I do leave feedback once I receive the item & everything is OK. I do not mind international shipping. I ship stuff to relatives in Germany. If you ship to certain countries like in Europe, Japan, Australia, South Korea, Canada... they have great postal systems. Everything now is tracked through the customs label number for the most part. It is when you ship to places like central & south America or Africa that somehow have more problems. The shipping companies are another thing entirely that have popped up because people refuse to ship overseas in ebay.

So, for the second half of the story:
It took some time for the package to arrive. The seller's writing was almost illegible, so the Post Office delivered it to the wrong address. So I went through the process to get that sorted out, and then... Drum roll... Turd in a box. Got a little Chinese Souvenir coin thing. Filed a claim with eBay. Tried looking for the Paypal transaction associated with the purchase and nothing appears for it at all (???). Don't know what that means. Want to try to find a more reputable seller but everyone offering it is based in China. Sad. |

And that is why I told you to file a claim right away when they took the listing down. You won't find the listing on Ebay but if you go through your Paypal history, you'll find the auction number, then you can enter that when you file a claim on Ebay and they ask you to enter auction#.

I can still see the transaction on EBay and I have the auction number, but it doesn't appear on my paypal. |
