I suppose everyone has a different definition of 'complete', however for this thread I will define it in this way...
Every Hasbro figure and vehicle/playset released in the US between 1982 and 1994, including mail-aways and variants. Figures - complete with filecards, not necessarily complete cardbacks. No broken parts (crotches, thumbs), but elbow rivet cracks ok. Vehicles - complete with blueprints, boxes not needed. Figures and vehicles can be opened, don't need to be MOC/MIB. So according to this definition, how many COMPLETE collections would exist? My guess is maybe only 10, or a little fewer. I know there are a lot of items out there, but I think there would be around 10 people fanatical enough to have it all, and good on them! Also, for a bit of fun, thinking about your own 82-94 collection, at what percentage of 'complete' do you estimate it is based on the above definition? I predict mine is only at about 65% I have the majority of compelte figures, missing or incomplete about 110 figures, and I only have about 125 complete vehicles/playsets. |

When you ask how many complete collections exist, how are you counting the people that own multiples of everything? Is that one collection or multiple complete sets?

I agree with Otomo. Just the sheer number of figures and vehicles produced, and the fanaticism of collectors there has to be more than 10. Everyone's definition of complete is somewhat different. My definition of complete would be all parts and pieces accounted for and unbroken, both for figures and vehicles. Filecards and instructions/boxes are nice, but for me are an added bonus. I don't need them to consider something complete. I know eventually that I will pick those up too, but for right now I'm good.
As for my collection, I'm down to needing 19 figures to have every one from 82-94. I have every figure from 82-87 and 90-92. I need around 20 vehicles to have everything from 82-94. So I'd say I'm at roughly 90% complete. |

What edgecrusher said. I've got multiples of almost everything that I have. Would that count towards the total?

No. Let's say you could put one of everything onto display into a big room, and anything else you have would just be a bonus, but not contribute to the 'completeness' of the collection. I also have multiple of many figures, but having 500 Crystal Balls is not the same as having ~500 individual unique figures.

not counting variants, i’m missing about 12 figures. (from ‘82 to ‘94)

Right. I don't have multiples of every figure, but with the exception of only having one terrordrome, I know i have almost 2 complete collections of vehicles. Would that count as 2?

ok I see what you guys mean. Sure, if you have at least 2 of every single item, that would count as 2 complete sets as defined in the first post.
