Who has one, and are they difficult to acquire?

I do...
...in my dreams. (lol) From what I understand, they're difficult to acquire complete and in good shape loose, much less MISB. Sealed examples do pop-up online from time to time, but for astronomical numbers. I've pretty-much accepted the fact that I may never own one, and I'm okay with that, I guess. Now if Hasbro wants to re-sculpt a new one, I might consider getting it, but I think that's probably a pipe-dream...

I was watching a review about it on YouTube. Just got me wondering about it. Seems it's pretty fragile. As a kid I recall seeing them in the store. But my parents would never pony up $120 bucks for a toy. I dont blame them now. But as a kid..I grumbled about it a time or two.

Yes...I wanted one terribly myself. From what I've gathered over the years, the cranking mechanism for the gantry/crawler can be quite fragile and breaks easily. I'm almost afraid to own one if there are such common issues...
That mode of thinking makes it easier, dulls the pain of not having one...just a little bit. (lol)

I acquired one at JoeCon in '05. It was maybe 85% complete, but it definitely has some issues with fragility. The weight of the shuttle and booster is what probably tends to break the crank. I only raise mine without the shuttle on it and guide it up carefully. Also, the wheel assemblies (all 4 of them) on the gantry warp and bend under the weight over time. I have had other issues with other small parts snapping, too. Even though it was a dream to get one, it is hard to store and keep in good shape.

It is really fragile between the gantry doors, cranking mechanism and wheels are prone to breaking. Plus the shuttle, booster and pilot all can yellow. It's an amazing toy, but hard to maintain.

Everything already mentioned above is correct. I own one too, but it is definitely very fragile and must be stored and/or moved very carefully.
It is a great toy with tons of play value and design features. I was fortunate to buy a complete one for a fair price but moving it was nerve-wracking. For the most part, a majority of the parts can be found in order to complete one. Finding an unbroken revolving airlock door is a real challenge. If you decide to get one and are able to locate one, find one good spot to keep it in and place some kind of supporting item (wood block, books, etc) underneath to support it.
