I still have all of my figures. The vehicles were played with too hard to be saved. I was about to sell all of my figures on eBay when I saw I could get money for them but I just couldn’t let them go. And then a couple of years later the collecting started with the 2001 figures I found at a Value City. I still remember I found the Mobat and figure 2packs and just had to buy them.

I got rid of figures, but I kept what's left of my MCC, Tomahawk, Rolling Thunder in good condition, and some other vehicles and parts like a Razorback and an ASP chariot that I built back up a bit.

Sold my awe striker and flint at a yard sale, still got the rest!
Hadn’t replaced the awe striker yet, but I’d like to.

Oddly enough, I just went through all the stuff left at my parents’ house over 23 years ago this evening. I was disappointed to find it in pretty terrible condition, having been handed down to my younger brother and various cousins. Lots of damaged, irreparable or missing items, but some still in pretty decent condition. Also, a number of figures I never had somehow found their way into my collection. I sorted through all the figures, so now I’ll have to go through the accessories and clean everything up and replace o-rings and try to tighten up some joints.
The reason I hadn’t gotten to them earlier is that after I left home in 1995 and enlisted in the Army, GI Joe had ended. I had no interest in Sgt. Savage or Extreme, and the TRU re-releases slipped under my radar. The next Joe stuff I found at retail wasn’t very impressive; I picked up a few JvC items, but it just wasn’t like the old stuff. I still loved Joe, but mostly stuck to the comics - until 2007 when the 25th stuff started popping up. I try to keep my collecting focused, so I decided to stick with the new stuff, which quickly became frustrating as the new stuff became harder to find at retail. Then it just dried up altogether, followed by the collectors club stuff. After discovering vintage toy reviews on Youtube, I decided to get back into the original stuff. I had a few figures stashed away that had come with some Ebay purchases, so I dug them out. I started tracking down figures, while in the back of my head always thinking of my old ones at my parents’ house. It was one of those situations where I think it was better remembering how I left it than actually seeing what was left of it. I always tried to take good care of my stuff, even as a kid. But my cousins were more destructive, and when we’d play together, there was collateral damage. But nothing like what my collection saw after I left it at my childhood home. Still, now I can move forward and continue filling in the gaps of my new collection with more certainty, instead of passing on an item, thinking I still have one packed away somewhere.

Most of my collection never made it, having been sold off without my consent. Most of the items that remained were items from later in the line (Crimson Guard Commander, Interrogator, DEF Junkyard and Mutt, Roadblock in space) though my Hooded Cobra Commander somehow managed to make it through in decent condition. The only vehicles that remained were a Thunderclap that's mostly in tact but missing the main gun and a few other bits, and the Sky Havoc that's only missing it's sled and engine cover (but has an original Havoc sled).

Nothing G.I. Joe. I sold all my toys off at garage sales for school clothes or traded things away. All I have left from then is one Transformer who somehow survived the purges, this guy: https://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2...earchlight.jpg

Aw, sad stories guys. But at least you are here today and working on rebuilding : )
Which Roadblock in space, ZombieSnake? Patriotic version or rockin’ orange? Personally I have the later as Roadblock, and ‘91 Snake Eyes’ head on the rwb body...which suits him really well. (Get it, suits? What better way to start the new year than with Joes and bad puns?) |
