Personally, I have purchased multiple items on second chance offers over the years. Not only that, if I lose an auction at the last minute, and it's one I was really wanting, I will e-mail the seller and let them know if the buyer backs out, that I will still take the item.
Accidental over-bidding aside, I do believe that there is something going on with this figure (and a handful of other vintage figures, Spirit, Cobra Officer, the night force figures, etc). The amounts that they're selling for are shocking. |

There is no recourse for someone bidding then backing out. If they request to cancel the auction they won there’s nothing that can be done other than blocking them for future auctions. Just chalk it up and move on.
Like I said, I’ve done enough auctions where 2nd chance offers rarely work. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I’ve sold something on a second chance offer. You have to consider that someone who was bidding on the auction may have found another. This reinforces my belief that bidders do this just to fuck with the current high bidder, to bid him up, and that's disgusting. I see it all the time on shows like Storage Wars, etc, they bid up the other team because they don't like them and want them to pay more, not because they themselves want it.

Honestly, I don't think it's bidding up just to mess with auctions most of the time. I'm sure it happens but as a seller I have to think more of my fellow man. With my experience I think it has to do more with the fact that people get into bidding wars and have to win at all costs. Once the auction ends, they have calmed down and have a clearer head not to go that high. Hence, they don't take the 2nd chance offer. Especially if the item is readily available.
Now, I do KNOW this happens. I have shipped worldwide from day 1 (September 6th, 1999). Most sellers won't ship overseas thus limiting the availability of product for them to choose from and the price going high. There are a lot of risks and some frustrations associated with doing this. Again, in my case, the good far outweighs the bad. Last edited by kiddreams; 07-19-2018 at 01:33 PM.. |

I get so many bidders that will bid, then cancel their bid stating wrong amount. According to Ebay, they are supposed to bid again with the correct amount. As a seller on Ebay, I find it annoying when they do that. Even worse are the ones that ask you to cancel the bid immediately after the auction ends. And there's nothing you can do but block the bidder for future auctions cause Ebay won't do anything about it. I complained multiple times and they just say they'll put a note in the bidder's file.
Another thing I wouldn't be surprised is there are some that have the same thing you have for sale, so they'll bid it up to artificially inflate the price. That way if the legitimate people who want it don't get it, then they can buy their auction. Since Ebay blocks bidders from seeing other bidders IDs, they can just bid it up hoping their own will sell for a better price cause no one can get the other cause of their high bid. I've had someone bid on a rare item for a while driving up the price and then at the last minute that they can cancel, they canceled the bid. I didn't get anymore bids on it after that cause everyone can see how high the previous guy bid and knew that it was a high amount. I was so pissed and raised a stink about it with Ebay. Don't know if they ever did anything to that person, but he was blocked from bidding on my auctions. The high bidder was blocked too cause I can't believe they weren't colluding.
