Hello. I am the original owner of a 1986 Tomahawk and recently pulled it out of a box in my parents basement. Upon pulling it out I remembered that the post where the back rotor head/housing connects has fallen down into the helicopter body. This post is not broken but somehow got pushed down out of its original position. From what I can tell the helicopter body plastic on the back part of the Tomahawk where this post is does not come apart. I have been unsuccessful trying to use pliers and pull this post back up into position. I fear I could break the post trying to pull it back up into place. I wanted to see if anyone had some suggestions on helping me get this post back up into its normal position. Many Thanks.

Restored the Condor.
You can use a Magic Eraser to clean up scuffs and stuff from the shell. IT worked well. I went with ToyHax decals this time. I wasn't all that impressed with jRubens the last time. However the ToyHax ones are $18 bucks plus shipping, so it's a lot more than RattlerRepros. That being said they are really nice decals. My "rescue" arrows weren't cut out as nicely as the others, they they ripped a little when trying to apply them. Here is the before: After:

That looks amazing. I am looking forward to restoring mine - hopefully in the spring.
Just curious - did you soak the body of the plane in water or anything? Did you unscrew it? Or keep it intact? Would really like to get all the details of the process. Last edited by HitandRun; 02-10-2019 at 10:51 PM.. |

Many years ago, the barrel of Voltar's pistol snapped off. It's always bugged me. What to do?
Get the measurements of the barrel from a similar weapon, and 3D model out a new one to print. Compensate the barrel thickness for Voltar's specific variant (which has a narrower base than, say, this Eel version), and add a little extra length to the shaft for an anchor. Smooth out the new barrel piece (acetone vapors & filing). Drill out a hole in the gun receiver to anchor in the barrel. Glue it into place. Drill out the vents a bit to enlarge them. Paint it to match the rest of the gun. This is mostly Vallejo Liquid Gold, with a very small amount of Tamiya Chrome Silver for texture and a bit of Tamiya Gun-Metal wash. It looks even better in person...the camera exaggerates the difference in gloss slightly. I'm still playing around with washes to give it as close a texture as possible. I could have smoothed out the print lines a bit more before gluing it in, but I'm still pretty pleased. I also used that Vallejo Liquid Gold to re-touch all the worn-out gold metal paint apps on the helmet, etc., which had not survived play. His helmet was mostly skin-colored before; now it looks almost new.

For other restrorations I take off loose parts, but typically do not unscrew anything unless it's really filthy.

I do not soak in water, typically I remove the sticker residue with Goo Gone, then scrub it with soap and wate... but this time no decals had ever been applied, so it was a proverbial clean slate.

Xerofall, can you post a link to the magic eraser pen you used to clean up the condor?
I would like to use it on my condor and potentially on the F-22 Thunderwing. Also do you have any tips on doing a deep clean to try to clean up dings/scratches on the plastic? Thanks in advance and sorry to bombard you with questions. |

It's not a pen, but a pad, like a sponge. You can literally find them at any store. They're from Mr. Clean.

So this is my first bad experience with RattlerRepros. His stuff typically takes a while to arrive... but this time it's completely off the wall...
I ordered on Jan 9th. Get a tracking number on the 28th, so he didn't ship right away... then I get a laundry list of my package bouncing all over the country... Jamaica then eventually back to Mexico for some reason. This is beyond frustrating.
