Not a lot makes sense about the original Python Patrol.
They don't really have a leader, but that's ok I suppose, they have Officers, so they have some sort of hierarchy. Copperhead is part of the team, but there are no watercraft in Python Patrol. A waste of a good marine combatant. They have an ASP - a towable vehicle that does not run on it's own, however the STUN has no tow hook, so they can't tow it into battle. They have an aircraft, but they have no pilots on the team. Who flies the Python Conquest? The best they've got is a Python Officer who can do air traffic control. According the the Python Viper's filecard, to get anywhere in Python Patrol, you have to start out as a Python Viper. This means that to become a Python Trooper, you must get promoted FROM being a Python Viper, but as a Python Trooper you get LESS sophisticated combat wear, you receive a LESS protective helmet, you downgrade your weapon to an old AK-47 with no sight and no grenade launcher, and you get fewer grenades. Python Patrol has Crimson Guards, who are not crimson(!). How would I have fixed this? Change the Python STUN to another fast attack vehicle with a tow hook, maybe a Python Desert Fox. Change the Python Trooper to a more specialized soldier like a HEAT Viper (I realise much later they have since made a Python HEAT Viper, I'm only talking about the originals). Maybe a Python BAT would have been useful. Give Copperhead a watercraft, or swap him out with someone else, like Major Bludd, or perhaps Baroness? At least mention in the filecard of the Python Officer that they are all qualified pilots or something, then someone can fly the damn Conquest. Rename Python Crimson Guard to something like Python Elite Guard. |

most of the team's don't make sense. The Marauders are a firefighter, a sniper, a k9 handler, an infantryman and a scout with three tanks no one's qualified to drive.
Tiger Force is a jungle unit with a damn Arctic half-track! Sky Patrol is a group of paratroopers with a fighter jet no one can fly, a submersible no one can operate and a heavy assault vehicle. Night Force is supposed to be a covert, nocturnal unit, yet they a. don't include the team's specialised night fighter (Lowlight) and b. do include a goddamn flamethrower specialist which isn't exactly covert. Plus they too have a fighter no one is qualified to fly and THREE watercraft no one can operate and TWO armoured vehicles no one can operate. |

The Python vehicle selection is curious. They were all made in Brazil, so I wonder if the selection was based on what molds were there. It's interesting that a Brazil made one not available here, the Swampfire, which adds a copter and water craft, but still can't tow the ASP. The club eventually made a stinger, not cheap to acquire, but why are the only Python HISS tanks customs?
Box art clear shows Copperhead knows how to fly the Conquest. LOL. What bugs me is the mix up of Trooper and Officer molds, as well as lack of vehicle drivers. I guess the paint ops took the driver budget or they didn't have the molds in Brazil. The Baroness, odd we never got a python Baroness in any style. She would've been a no-go in 1989 because by then Hasbro had given up on female figures (until 1993's Scarlett). And it seems like after 1987, Hasbro preferred troopers over characters for enemy figures. One Hasbro commercial shows multiple Python copperheads, so I even wonder if they cared if he was single character (Dic remembered and the file card still says he is). Sgt. Slaughter is clearly a capable armored vehicle operator, based on Triple T and Warthog. Tiger Force was not specifically a jungle unit. Nothing on vintage packaging says they were. Their main schtick is recolored Joe and Cobra vehicles. It's all silly, but at that point in the line, not unusual. How about Night Force has a recolored Triple T and no Slaughter! Also 2 Cobra vehicles with no explanation why like Tiger Force had. Night Force had too many vehicles anyway, but Hasbro thought that was where the profit was. I think the vehicles overloaded the line. The average kid couldn't even hope to collect all of it. |

What makes even less sense is how in DIC the python vehicles were alive...

It seems these sub teams were made more to revive interest in popular characters and vehicles that were discontinued for that time such as Duke, Roadblock v1, Spirit, Cobra Officer, Copperhead, Mutt, Rattler, ASP, H.A.V.O.C., etc., without the minimum strategy and logic when the teams were conceived.

Sky Patrol is actually quite a decent squad of paratroopers. they fit well together. It's just the vehicles don't make an ounce of sense.

I would assume that the promotion direction from Python Viper to Python Trooper is an error, and is intended to be the other way around.
I thought it was funny when the 25th Python Officer kept the "error" of using the Trooper webgear and rifle (Dragunov). I'd have preferred the "correct" webgear and rifle (AK), but I get what they were going for. (I wasn't as thrilled when the 25th Officer got a Dragunov instead of an AK, but whatever.)

In the DIC cartoon Cobra Commander was their leader I guess. I just watched Operation Dragonfire over the winter. Not as bad as I remembered actually...
Python Patrol and Tiger Force are my two favorites.

I never really cares for python patrol until I saw a friend who was working at toys r us in 1989. He asked if I had my car and I said yes. He told me to go to pick up in the back and hand him a ticket. I was sorta getting the drift off what he was getting at. He asked me to pick out what I wanted. Long story short, he gave me three cases of go Joe figures. Among them were python patrol and a bunch of other figures. I believe I got 144 figures that day.

I saw the cartoons cartoons when I was 11. Saw DIC again and like you said, not as bad as I remembered. Watched sunbow again. Much worse than I remembered...
