Hey guys,
I've been starting to restore some of my old vintage Joes. Most of them unfortunately had rusty screws. I've taken a bunch of the figures apart for cleaning and I still have a few figures with some rust stains around the holes in the backs/legs. Is there any good tricks to getting the rust stains out? I cleaned the plastic parts for the figures in warm water with light dishwasher soap and generally had good luck getting the plastic clean on most of the figures. Thanks for any tips/tricks. |

Does anyone have any good tips to get the rusty screws out. I have a few that are almost denigrating. I was thinking about just replacing the torsos. Thanks.

I know I use a specialized WD40 to bust rusted parts from my restoration car, that might work especially to with the precision straw. Unless the screw is stripped and the rust isnt causing the issue. In that case I know there are drill bits that actually drill into the screw and latch into it and unscrew it, too. Again car tool. Not sure if they make them small enough for the Joe screws. Coke might work instead of WD40 but then you have to clean Coke from the crevasses.

If the head is ruined from rust then drilling it off is probably your only option. I’ve done it before and had success. I’d practice on a junk fig first if you have one.

I meant “disintegrating” in my previous post. Thanks for the ideas. I will try the drill method and see how it goes.

Yeah the drill would be the way to go then. Be careful and good luck. Where were the figs all this time that the screws are disintegrating from rust? A saltwater pier?
