I bid early on this listing, but when it went past my budget I lost interest. Just now I was curious how much it went for, and was surprised to see it go for $920!
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Vintage-...p2047675.l2557 Is this lot really worth that much? The rarest figures I see are Aero Viper, '94 Alley viper with stripes on legs, Skymate, Cloudburst, gray Snow Storm, Static Line, maybe a handful of others. I see no nightforce, no Steel brigade or stardusters, nothing out of the ordinary in the accessories except maybe Cobra Blackstar's green missile launcher. 185 figures, comes to about $5 per figure. They are not all in great condition, a fair few broken and yellowed. Am I missing something? Or does this seem about right? |

"One man's junk..." as the saying goes. I wouldn't pay that much for it, and it sounds like you wouldn't either. But somebody did. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe the usual way ebay works sometimes, I see 2 bidders who raise the price, one has only 5 deals so far, therefore is inexpericenced. Buyers tend to panic when the auction ends and push the price. In the end the new guy got lucky because both offered 920$ in the last seconds.

you already did the math. None are rare but most seem in ok shape (EDIT: on my phone. You mention yellow snd some broken so my following comment assumes they are in good to ok shape)
Assuming that ALL the accessories are there for each and every figure, that's actually probably a better deal than average. Possibly s really good one depending on condition of some. But if all the accessories are not (and it looks like it's not even close) it's an overpayment (though not gigantic). So it seems fairly reasonable to me.

I bet someone gets cold feet and the seller suddenly gets the dreaded transaction cancelled email where the buyer alleges they "accidentally" entered the wrong amount. That's the most frustrating thing about ebay. It's completely geared toward protecting the buyer, and the seller has no recourse.

eBay is a funny thing. It's part folks wanting to buy stuff and part entertainment. It isn't a bad lot but I suspect that a couple of folks got into a bidding war and that is the reason it went so high.
Sometimes you suspend your logic in a bidding war. As much as I try I have been there myself. |

Bidding war between two buyers proud enough to not allow the other to win. Any other day that lot could reach no more than $300.

Yeah, not worth it to me, but it was to at least two people as others have said. That's ebay. Plus, I suspect it's getting worse thanks to bids by bidders who have no intention of paying for the auction if they happen to win. Seems like some are just there to dick about and drive up auction prices.

I've sold stuff that went for way more than I expected due to some bidding war. All it takes is two people that really want it.
