I can understand the popularity of the vehicles given their chrome paint but I have never understood why the figures seem to consistently be the priciest non Night Force figures from this era (late 80's and early 90's). They are just repaints with new heads and some consistently meh accessories. Never was a fan of the parachutes either, even as a kid. I think I only owned one of em, the one based on the Motor Viper.
Anyone want to explain why these guys command the prices they do? |

They seem less common, available for just part of one year (1990)...maybe?
I never used the parachutes. The pack didn't have the parachute pack's straps to hold it on, I assumed the figure would fall loose from the pack. |

It's been some time since I grabbed mine, but I don't think the guys are all that expensive for a sub team with the occasionally small gear they all had. Night Force is currently ridiculous at over 100 for complete figures.
The Sky patrol guys were all new characters and the repaints are generally well thought of, they looked different, and their weapons were cool too. I dont think the figures themselves are rare, but completeness is what makes them rare and thus worth money. To each his own really that's what is cool about Joes. I agree about the chutes, especially now. You want to trust an almost 30 year old hunk of plastic to some mylar go ahead. |

SP is my favorite sub team, and even though they are repaints, they are still some of my favorite figs.

Honestly it could be worse. They could look like real military and they all look the same! Talk about cosr saving you would need like three or four molds and off you go. |

I haven't seen THAT much of a difference in price with or without the chutes. $10 a figure is impressively cheap even without the chute. Everything I have seen is appx $20 a figure w/o chute. $30 with. I paid that a few years back. Either way certainly not Nightforce prices which are totally out of hand on ebay.

Ya it may have been a little bit more but definitely under $100 (so maybe it was like $15 a figure) They found some in bargain bins and bought the helmets from another dealer. I don't even look on eBay much anymore. The prices are insane! $80+ for night force, $100 for rumbler, $200 for a star duster or Ramage, gold head steel brigade going over $300. It's ridiculous

So that's why we couldn't find any Sky Patrol deals at this years con. Seriously though, I agree with the OP that the sky patrol prices are insane. You CAN score them for cheap on ebay without the helmets, BUT, who wants a sky patrol figure without a helmet?? And then to try and track down the helmets on ebay, people are asking for like $7-$10 for a single helmet. It's ridiculous.
