I was thinking more if these figures where released again, just exactly as they once were - original packaging identical to the originals etc - would kids buy them?
Or.... I just had an idea What if Hasbro released the figures but with extra alternative parts (like alternative arms, heads and a also a screw driver/tool to promote customisation) - would these sell? To offer an alternative to the customisation idea, the way to go would be to make a cell phone or tablet app to draw the kids in and then sell the characters. For the love of God someone made money off a "figure" of the poop emoji! GI Joe's problem is its presentation not the toys themselves. It must move away from the military aspect to make it more friendly and find a way to market it. |

My question is, if kids didn't buy POC, 30th, Retaliation, 50th.....why would they buy this stuff?

Well, they would certainly be less expensive, if nothing else (or, at least, they should be less expensive). I'm not sure how much appeal they'd have to kids compared to other more modern brands--probably not an awful lot. If something like this were to happen, it would almost certainly be for the benefit of adult collectors. Which makes me think it would be better as a boxed set than as a line of individually-sold figures. I'm pretty sure it's all academic anyways, though, as Hasbro likely has no intention of doing anything like this.

They would peg warm until they clearanced out.
For 1983 these were amazing. In 2017 they're ugly and stumpy. Detailed super articulated figures don't sell. The same theme with much worse figures would be a disaster. |

You are right about the originals, but the later sculpts looked decent. Kids do not want super articulated toys. The simpler stuff is more desireable to them because it is easier to set up amd play with. If anything, less articulation is needed. Kids want stuff from media tie-ins, specifically apps. Either that or go the building block route. I loved the second line of Kre-o once they stopped using the Battleship designs and upped QC. Mega Blocks Joe would be great. Either way retail 3.75 Joe is likely dead, just like most of the other action figure lines.

Like others said, I doubt it would do well. I have all of the original 13 characters because of eBay, I don't want or need them again. However, I would like some of the vehicles. If Hasbro redid the Falcon & Viper gliders in an SDCC set, I would want those. If they retooled the Dragonfly, original HQ or the APC, to fit modern figures, I would want that as well. The HQ and Dragonfly might do well at retail, but I'm not sure about the rest.
