Hey guys. I'm new on the Tank. I was pointed here by member Cross-Country recently.
I'm working on an itemized checklist for a large amount of ARAH years (probably from 82-90). Depending on how much steam I have at that point I may carry it out to 94. This is being done as a Microsoft EXEL document. My question is this: How does the community at large count the variations of color with File Cards? For instance the peach 85, verses the gray versions that came with the 85 re-issues in 86. Do you count them as variants, or do you only consider Cards with alternate image or text information as variants? I personally only count them as variants if the images or info is different, but since this list might be helpful for the community at large, I figured that I would try and get some feedback. I feel the same way for the rectangular verses the tabbed Cards. If the info and image is the same, it's not a variant to me. If you had an itemized checklist, where you could check off individual items in your collection, would you want to check a unique box for one of these minor variations, or only for the major stuff? Any help would be most appreciated. The more opinions the better, that way I can hopefully get a better feel for the majority opinion. Thanks! |

I think yojoe.com has the list you are making. I think they show all variants of a figure, and I'm sure they show all the FC's that were released for that figure.

There's a box with an 'O' in it which stands for Original, in the case of items that survived your childhood, and a box marked 'R' for Replacements for items that you've replaced, or for items that you never had as a kid but acquired later as an adult collector. Rather than create it in Excel, you'd be better off building a DB in Access and exporting a report to Excel when needed. That's just my 2 cents though.

Progress report, I just finished 86. That's 82-86, plus all that I had as a kid, as well as what my brother had, and all that are on my initial wish list, so it's quite a bit more than just 82-86 so far. 93 just may break me 8 O |

I actually have an Excel file that I created last year to keep track of my own collection. It doesn't sound as detailed as yours but it might be a good start for you. I've got tabs for 82-90, with each figure listed, along with each of their accessories. I didn't account for variants or file cards. When I get an item I just turn that box green. If it has a defect I turn it red and then add a comment to that line describing the defect. When I complete a figure I turn the entire line green (unless there's defect). It has been very helpful!
