Love the old shcool stuff, and one day when I have enough coin to get a really awesome vintage setup, I will, but right now I'm all about 25th. The vintage stuff just looks odd next to it. I use a few of the newer VvV, and Spytroops characters as place holders, like , Bomb Strike, GI Jane, Zarana, Ghost Bear, Courtney "Cover Girl" Krieger. All BATS work for me, because they can easily be different series I love my Neo-Vipers, but damn it they look so weird next to the 25th guys as well.
For me they are separate...two different models completely, but I love 'em the same!

I do not mix them at all. I have all my vintage displayed in dios (FLAGG for Joes and a giant arctic base w/ 2 Terror Drome's for Cobra) or arranged on shelves w/ MIB and MOC items.
The 25th figures are displayed, but will soon be taken down, as I've lost interest in the line. Movie figures will take their place.

It'd be like mixing the original Star Wars line with the current one. Or old MOTU with the New Mattel collector series. Or Old transformers with the new Classic or movie line.
While I appreciate the ARAH series and have my fondest childhood memories with them, they are obsolete in todays action figure market and have no place on the shelf with my Classic/25th Joes. They do, however, still hold a special place in my collection and I will not part with them. Still great toys, ust not AS great as the current Joe line.

I don't own any O ring figs, but I just can't see mixing them. The older style figs look stumpy, and kind of melty, compared to the new ones. The sculpting and the proportions are just too different.

I will mix DTC with 25th figures - especially the later series - and some random figures that look particularly good. But for the most part, no - they don't look that well together.

I only mix them if I don't have the 25th equivalent (like Sgt. Slaughter and Heavy Duty) but if the old ones are too ugly or disproportionate (like Cover Girl), I just leave them out of the collection.
Also, figures I probably WON'T get (like 25th Doc, since I missed out on that offer and scalpers charge a lot for it), I display them with my 25th figures. |

I forgot to mention the vehicles. Unless I modify the seats, the vintage stays in the cockpit.
P.S.- I like the "vintage" Rattler better than the 25th updated one. Better plastic and better decals. |

I mix a little. Mostly into the 25th and ROC which I mix completly and then a few New Scuplts get tossed in and very few RAH are used. Metalhead v2 is one b/c he is just a great sculpt.

the new plastic is junk compared to the original. I like having the 25th MOC because they remind me of going into a store and sorting through the many many many pegs, picking out my favorites with my christmas money. then, coming home and doing crazy chores for another 10 bucks, then beg my brother to take me with him to the mall so I could take advantage of toys r us' 4 for $10 sale. BUT... I bet you that in 25 years... the 25th guys that have been opened and played with will be destroyed.
The original Joes beat any new action figure line out there today. I do not base that on nostalgia... I base it on interchangeable weapons and durability. what kid wants to play with something that takes forever to get to stand on its own... and hands that barely hold onto their guns??? And to all the older people on here.... doesn't it seem like history is repeating itself with the giant spring missile launchers and the 100 repaints and the mismanaged cartoon situation and the change for no reason card art???? I bet the new figs will be painted neon and fighting toxic waste before you know it. to bad hasbro won't hire ME!!! |
