I apologize in advance because I'm sure this has been asked before. Why do so many of the Slaughter's Mauraders figures have broken thumbs? None of the other figures in that same year seem to have issues with the thumbs breaking to this extent. Anyone know? (I recently finally landed the full set with their thumbs in tact with the exception of one on Spirit).

Edit: disregard; I thought he was talking about the ME ones, not the ARAH ones.

I think the OP is referring to the vintage o-ring Marauders, not the newer BBTS set that came out with the Dreadnok set.
The old Slaughters Marauders must have been made of different plastic. My SM Spirit is the only figure where I ever broke off the four fingers from the hand and not the thumb.

It has to be the plastic, or maybe because they are from older molds? the original versions didn't have any thumb or crotch problems, at least no more than other figures though.

They were made in Argentina (I think, or Brazil or some other South American place) using stiffer/harder plastic. That's why they are so brittle.

Tell me about it. I still need a right hand for Spirit and a left for Barbecue.

Definitely a lesser quality plastic used on these I had a Lowlight missing 4 fingers and both thumbs. Thankfully I was able to get some doner parts cheap because he is complete and in excellent shape otherwise.

Yes, the figures were made in Brazil of more brittle plastic. Tiger Force Recondo (and the Tiger Fly) and mail-in Quick Kick were also made in Brazil. I think Mail-in Dee-Jay, as well. It's odd since some of those weren't sold in Brazil.
Also, I remember how easily Mutt's mustache paint rubbed off when you had him wear his mask for any period of time. European Low-Light is made in Marauder's colors and of regular Hasbro materials, I think. So if you want a sturdier version of him, that's an option. The rest, sadly, no. |
