Hello,
Long time lurker, first time poster. Big fan of the O-ring ARAH joes. I like (or obsess over) the 82-88’s joes and will cherry pick through the remaining years. To my point; I’ve seen collections where the owner has showcased their figures with their accessories. As a collector of C9/high quality conditioned figures my living fear is taking a chance that if I were to display them with a weapon or helmet it will potentially lead to a broken thumb and or a paint scrap off the head. I was just wondering if anyone has ever fretted over this life standing dilemma and or what would you do if and when you display your joes? Thanks! |

Sadly, I keep all my ARAH joes in zip locked in shoe box going on 8 years now since I started collecting. I know many claim that the rubber bands will age and break regardless of being displayed or bagged but from my personal experience, they will age much faster and snap a lot sooner than being stored in a air tight zip lock bag. As for the weapons....be it arah or modern, when they are on display I will only display with a few of their gear and weapons and keep the rest in a tagged ziplock. And yes sooner or later you can easily lose gear that way.

I just use helmets and backpacks..I stay away from guns and the sort because I have countless figs with broken thumbs that have been replaced over the years. I don't tend to worry much about paint rub on the heads/hair since I keep them covered up anyway.

if you're putting them on display, what's the point of half-assing it with no gear?

To me it is easier to have two of Sci Fi's rifle for example than to have a broken thumb and have to find a good spare that has the same color tone. I always display with the weapons because to me the weapons are as iconic as the figure. Weapons like what Heavy Duty carries as well as v2 RnR are just as cool as the fig in my opinion. |

If you are going to display them it might as well be with their accessories, a buncha loose figures without their stuff would just look weird. This is also the reason i hate figures that came with more accessories that they can hold, like everything from 91 forward.

Display it all. What's the point of having the rest sitting in a box somewhere? I've never broken a thumb by putting the weapons in the hands.

Sadly I don't have the space to display my vintage joes. Although when I did I would with thier accesories when I could anyway. Some figures just have to many so I would limit it to what they could hold. The rest were bagged and labled. I do this with my modern joes as well. Since most are diplayed in large dios which takes up most of the room.

I display all my joes with their original weapons. Unless they are in vehicles, then the weapons are in the cab. I am very careful not to stress the thumbs so if they hold the rifle a little weird, ah well. They are placed on shelves by my computer desk so I can look at them as I work and every once in a while take them down and reenact my childhood.
