What do you do with your 80s-90s figures? Like if you get them off eBay, or Craig's list or yard sales or even your collection when you a kid... Do you leave them as is? Or do you restore them? Change the O-Ring only? Do you touch up the paint apps? Does it devalue the figure by touching up the paint? Just curious. As for me I only Change the O-ring but am seriously considering touching up the paint.

I would never touch the paint! Oring only if it is bad or broken.

Change the o-ring, and if it's something like a worn eyebrow, or face mask like a Motor-Viper, I would touch up the paint. But I'm not interested in resale, just for my own shits and giggles.

Only O-rings and maybe exchange parts of same guys to make one really good piece and then a lesser figure to let my kid play with or use in another way. Have never touched paint and don't want to buy figures who have been touched up by someone. Peroxide to deal with yellowing might be the only altering I'm okay with otherwise.

I change o-rings if they are really loose or broken. I would touch up paint if I had the skills to do so. But I suck at detailed painting so I just leave it be.

O-ring and new screw if the old ones are rusty.

I'll swap out the o-ring or swap a body part from a like figure. I always keep the body parts especially from popular figures!!

don't use peroxide for whitening.
if they are yours to keep go ahead and touch them up with paint. if you are ever going to sell them make sure you remember who and what was touched up with paint. I use baby oil and rubbing alcohol to clean them up. change o rings, use naval jelly on the rusty screws... tada!

I've replaced O-Rings, T-crotches, a few screws, and swapped a few body parts off figs to fix broken hands/crotches/elbows. My paint skills are atrocious, so I don't do much with painting, and when I do, it rarely looks good.
Sad thing is, in 10 years or so when all my modern-era figs start falling apart, the skills to repair them are probably beyond my clumsy fingers. |

New o-ring. They also get a scrubbing with some hand soap and a toothbrush if they need it; disassemble & dry with can air and eventually find their way into an acid-free bag (to keep all their crap with them) and into a storage case
I've been known to touch up the black paint with a fine tip sharpie, but only if the figure is totally trashed. If it is a little rub on an otherwise mint figure, I don't mess with it.
