I found that an extra bow piece looks very nice when attached to the aft fantail adding much needed storage space. Also: An extra elevator deck piece fits very well when attached to the bow. Total length with mods come in just under 10 feet!

How did you attach the extra bow piece to the back. I was thinking about doing the same thing.

I found a good assortment of random boxes at just the right height to mount the extended deck until I can snag a few extra truss pieces to build something "custom stock" looking.

Casting my redesigned USS Flagg bulkhead doors for use around my custom Carrier. I removed the dog handle bar on the outside of the door, Created external working hinges, and made a bulkhead section mold w frame. I'm new at casting, so there are some minor imperfections. However these blemishes are easily removed carefully using a Dremel brush wheel. I decided to place the door raised a bit over the frame to simulate the knife edge seal on actual WTD's I plan on making some external hand wheels to match the inside as well. I also made a mold of the original hasbro bulkhead door with existing inside hinges. This mold is cleaner than the new one shown. I have only cast one of those to check the alignment. Works fine. For those that are interested: I have a stockpile of original Flagg Bulkhead doors that I probably won't use now. I will probably be willing to part with some of them.

This is my current Flagg setup (only missing mast cap and fan tail - I hope to get these as repro parts from Alyosha after JoeCon): I bought 4 small table from IKEA to put it on and they work pretty well. I was looking to get one big table but the cost was just too much. These only ran me $80 total and I can stagger them to support where it needs it and still give me room.
I originally had the Flagg on the floor, but I was running out of shelf space to display more of my GI Joe collection. My plan is to buy some LED light strips to put under the tables and use the floor space to put some of the larger vehicles such as Rolling Thunder, etc. What do you guys think? |

I can now officially join this owners group. I had one as a kid, but it was lost to a flood. I drove 4 hours yesterday to get my FLAGG. Missing a few minor parts, but also missing the fantail railing. I guess I will contact Alyosha and get a quote on that piece. Evilbay is outrageous. I am thinking about building some shelves to mount it on. Has anyone out there sprayed their flagg white? or just did some peroxide bath? It has a few pieces that I want to bring back to minty.

I painted mine since I read that the peroxide fades. I found a Krylon spray that matched p the colors pretty well. Removed all the stickers first. I use an old closet door as the base for it sit on. I covered it with a twin sheet that looks like water (kind of) and then put the whole thing on top of an ironing board. So it sits high, is stable (had to make sure and find a very strong ironing board). The closet door is big enough that I can have a few small boats on it as well. It sits in the middle of my toy room (or did until I decided to paint and recarpet the whole upstairs).

I have just joined this club and I was a guy who never thought I would. The story goes is that I'm searching Craigslist for gi joe (as I do every month or so) and up pops a flagg for 550 in the town I live in. I text the guy and we agree to 475 and it's only missing keel hauls gun and a grey antenna piece. I actually have extra deck clips! It's a beauty and way bigger than I anticipated. I was worried about it fitting in my man cave and it does, but it definitely ate some space.
The best part of this story though is that the seller EASILY has the biggest gi joe collection on the planet. I counted three terrordromes, 8 uss flags and doubles and triples of nearly everything else vintage displayed immaculately in a huge loft. He had the Sears missile command center, all of the 25th stuff and no less than 20 skystrikers. It was so impressive. I guess I'll settle for just ONE flagg. But he has a basement fill of extras he sells and I'm definitely grabbing some more from him. He promised good deals for repeat business so I guess a whale is next. |
