Here’s a closer look at the TTBP display. It, like everything else in the room is a work in progress. $8 glass shelf and $2 shelf clips from Home Depot. Doubles the amount of sea-based stuff I can display. I think it came out pretty good. This picture has nothing to do with my Flagg or TTBP…but I didn’t want to start a new thread to show it off. Awesome idea and well executed Extnsv. I don't have a Flagg, but if I did, I'd be on the hunt for a glass tabletop.

So I'm basically down to very few things remaining to have a complete Flagg...problem is, I can't wrap my brain around the cost for these things. For example deck clips $10 a piece? Hull side $40? Don't even get me started on finding mast pieces. The Joe parts sites never have the things I need and eBay is a profiteers paradise anymore. If any Flagg owners have some of the above mentioned parts at reasonable prices, please PM me. I'd love to finish my Flagg

The Here's my progress so far. I've done my best to stick to the Navy coatings and colors manual.
Interior- The deck is painted in a high gloss green that is intended to simulate the highly polished green linoleum tile found in so many US military ships, including the USS Flagg inspiration, USS Intrepid. The interior bulkheads are painted in a lighter pastel green, as is the interior of Intrepid's bridge. The tracks in which the bulkheads are mounted are painted "deck gray" to simulate the "dado" as are the seat pedestals. A dado (pronounced day-doe) is a field of deck gray that starts at and rises no more than 12 inches from the deck. The hatch's dogs and control wheel are painted silver to simulate bare metal. All control panels, chairs, and the helm pedestal are painted light gray. The top of the helm pedestal is painted "brass" to simulate some brightwork to be shined on the bridge. Exterior- The exterior is painted "light gray" with decks painted "deck gray". I am omitting the dado on the exterior for now. Decals were removed prior to paint. The hull numbers (99) are the only marking that will be replaced. I have attained a superstructure top that is in the process of receiving the same interior and exterior paint as the second deck section. I am currently working on getting a superstructure base/flight deck level piece, as well as the remaining superstructure parts. It's a bit of a twist on the traditional USS Flagg look, but I am pleased with it so far. Last edited by Everett Colby; 12-30-2014 at 10:20 PM.. |

for those that don't understand why everett colby used that God awful seam foam green on the interior spaces, this is the same cold used on the interior bridge spaces of most modern Navy ships. I'm not sure why….and most of us who own those spaces try to convert it to blue if we can get away with it. Nice job Colby, keeping the accuracy of a true Navy Carrier.

Hello Gentleman
Here today to unveil plans to convert my USS Flagg into a SCB-125 (Essex Class) Variant. This conversion will Lengthen the vessel to over 11 feet (WL) and almost double her freeboard allowing for a functional hanger deck. I am trying to accomplish this using mostly genuine Flagg components. So far I anticipate requiring only approximately 1.5 play sets to accomplish this. As we know the Flagg was based on the USS INTREPID which at actual scale size would be over 45 feet long. At aprox 1/4 scale I believe that a more realistic looking carrier will result. The more important reason for the conversion is to obtain a greater, more believable amount of deck space for joe aircraft. That with sky strikers modified to allow delta wing configuration with landing gear down will also allow for a more functional and realistic flight deck. More to come Last edited by SCB 125; 12-30-2014 at 06:17 PM.. Reason: Photo |
