Hello fellow Flagg owners!
I ran across this site while doing some research on my own USS Flagg project and wanted to say hi. I'm currently in the process of trying to complete the Flagg that I got from a friend who was moving back in 1996. It had almost all of its original parts (even the mast cap and deck clips!), but barely any decals applied. Back then I was just thrilled to be able to finally own the dang thing to care about any of the other things. After finally moving to a house of my own that had the extra room, I was able to get my Flagg down from Pennsylvania last year. Unfortunately in the time between moving to Florida, my mom moved houses herself and the Flagg was lovingly, but inexpertly packed up. A few broken pieces here an there and a now missing mast cap (why did it have to be that???) and here I am slowly replacing the broken parts. I've been able to locate for reasonable prices all of the parts that needed replacing, save for the mast cap, and I also tracked down replica decals (So.Much.Cutting.) to bring it back to life. I have been searching for a reproduction mast cap to no avail; the ones I find in my searching are eBay auctions long since ended. I'm hoping some one here can help point a forum n00b like myself in a direction that might lead me to the mythical mast cap I so desperately seek! Many thanks in advance! Yo Joe! Here is a look at my Flagg: |

It definitely won't work without modification. That's what I have and I had to stick a thick piece of cardboard at each end to make up for the needed length. You really need an 8 ft. table.

If it yellows again, I may just paint it. Also on the table talk. I bought a 4'x8' piece of plywood and that's what mine is on. |

I am going to peroxide it again. My terrordrome has held up perfectly fine. We'll see. I might do what Xero said and apply a thin layer of clear. One good thing about Texas is that heat will instantly whiten your peroxide projects.

I started a thread on Facebook about the Flagg and got this information back:
Ok, from Greg Berndtson himself "I can assure you that the aircraft carrier was my own original idea as we had talked about before. The design did go though a few ideations. There were no formal developmental drawings done for it. There were a couple of foam mock ups. The carrier was loosely based on the USS Intrepid...a modified Essex class carrier. As for the number, I chose 99 the number as I knew it would be some time before the US Navy would ever get CVAN vessels up that high. Hope this helps." G.B. |

I replied:
The fact the design was based in the Intrepid answers my question as to why the Flagg came with 5"/38 cal Naval guns rather than Sea Sparrow missiles and Phalanx CIWS guns which were used on Nimitz-class carriers in the 80s to present. Also, with the Intrepid being CV-11, the "11" deck numbers look the same from front and rear which could explain the mix up on "66/99" stickers. For those that might not know, the sticker placement suggested by Hasbro is actually "66." The numbers are viewed as if you were looking above the carrier with the stern at the bottom. |

On another note, applying all the stickers to the Flagg is a pain! I've got the original blue prints/instructions, sticker instructions, and old sticker sheets but the sticker instructions is hard to figure out on some. Wish there was a tutorial or better references for sticker placement.
