What latter figures and probably less popular versions of characters are more iconic to you than the originals and probably better versions. I seem to be slightly younger than most collectors it seems. So my first versions of iconic characters were not usually the first versions.
Tiger Force Bazooka. To this day I still think of him in his white TF jersey before his red one. Flint Tiger Force. Same deal as Bazooka. the V1 still looks odd to me in all black. Clutch Mega Marines. It was my first clutch as bad as the color scheme of that character is he was my first clutch and well always be my default version. Zartan Ninja Force. Even as a child this figure was an offensive representation but it was my only chance at the time to own a Zartan. Now Zartan with a Mohawk seems just as normal as Zartan with a hood. Scarlett Ninja Force. Pretty much same as my Zartan story only when I did get the version one years later I discover her head sculpt was as ugly as the version 2's body. Repeater Night Force. This one probably is the cooler version. Still think of him in darker colors before lighter ones. Charbroil Night Force. Same thing as Repeater, it was a 2 pack after all. Shockwave DEF. I think this still the best version and the first 2 are incredible figures. This was first version all SWATed up, what's not to love. Stalker V2. This maybe pretty common, but I remember seeing him in the store and wondering if there hadn't already been a Stalker figure. I had yet to discover the comic and since he wasn't featured much in Sunbow, I wasn't quite sure. For a 8 yr old the kayak was awesome selling point. Rock n Roll V2. See Stalker pretty much same story. But also cool guns for an 8 yr old. What are yours? |

Pretty much all of the original 82' guys are my go to versions. But.. Rock n Roll ver.2 became my definite version of him when it came out. Other I also preferred the Night Force Colors on just about everyone in that sub set, so they all became the version I preferred over the originals. Lol

This is a great discussion topic. I also feel kind of young for an ARAH fan, I got into this by playing with my older brother's stuff, but when I started getting my own I had a lot of later versions of old characters.
As a kid some of my favorites were Rock n Roll v2, Duke v4, Ninja Force Storm Shadow, and 91 Snake Eyes v4. As an adult my modern collection is focused on getting one figure (the most iconic version) of each character. It is mostly v1 but I have a few exceptions. I use Hawk v2. I have read all of the Marvel run, but before that I watched the Sunbow toon and remember him in his brown jacket. Silver pads Grand Slam. Red pads is too close to Flash for me. Deep Six v2. V1 is barely an action figure to me, I hate that thing but feel like I should get it because it is his most memorable look. Storm Shadow v2. I like him as a good guy. I actually have several versions of him and Snake Eyes, but this is my favorite now.

Roadblock version 2 is more Iconic in a sense, because his original outfit was just a camo tank top and rusty orange pants. Also, my first Roadblock was V2.
Hawk V2. I didn't have v1 or v2. But V1 was too generic. Ace v2 was a better figure, didn't have Ace V1. Space man wearing his undies on the outside was odd for 1983. I preferred Night Force Outback to the original. I remember thinking the white t-shirt was kind of silly to wear in battle even for GI JOE. |

Hawk v2, Snake Eyes v2, Roadblock v2 definitely. the first two because they were the ones I had and were released first in the UK, and were most featured in the Marvel UK comics. Roadblock v2 was the one I was more familiar with from the comics, as I missed out on the whole 1985 AF Pallitoy-packed Joes era.

This is a good topic. I was only a baby when the original figures were released, so I didn't really start collecting until 85/86. Snake Eyes version 3 was our go-to for Snake Eyes, and even though version 2 is now my favorite, I still feel version 3 was a great version.
In my opinion, Roadblock V4 from '92 was a great version of him at a time when (as many believe) GI Joe was losing it's way a bit. He actually came with black weapons when many of the figures were coming out with florescent clothes and weapons. V3 of Dusty from '91 remains my favorite version of him. Huge muscles and a deadly stare. Oh the many battles he and desert scorpion had. |

For some reason I really attached myself to 1989's Countdown. He wasn't in the comic or cartoon, but he had an overall look that made an impact on me as a kid.

Sonic fighter Falcon was my favorite version, and i owned both the original and night force versions of him. The light gray digital camo uniform was just so bad ass and really made him stand out while still being a "realistic" military uniform. He also had kick ass weapons, i didn't much like his shotgun.
