I have always wanted to ask this but always forget. Hope this is in the correct area of the site.
Has anyone else seen the old 1985 Joe Brochure and seen the photos of the Crimson Twins. They look much different than the actual figures which were released. The faces looked different and the cobra insignia was actually raised/embossed instead of just stamped on as in the regular figures. Has anyone else noticed this and if so, was this just a prototype? I would like to get my hands on those figures. They're probably locked up in some Hasblo vault somewhere. Since I am on the topic of prototypes, in the 1984 brochure, has anyone noticed that Zartan was red instead of brown? If you look at the box art of the original zartan/skier, his clothes where red. Somewhere along the way, hasblo decided to go against what was in their brochure and box art. Does anyone have info on this discrepancy? Thanks!

Those were most likely pre-production prototypes. There are a bunch of examples from the pack-in brochures/catalogs that came with the vehicles. The one that immediately comes to mind is how different the Cobra-La and Renegades figures looked like in the 1987 catalog/brochure from the actual product.

Just like Zuludelta said the catalogue had prototypes in the inital year and would show what we got the following year's catalogue. I actually like the maroon color over the red for Zartan. I wish we got the prototype versions of the Cobra Trooper & Cobra Officer from the original 1982 catalogue.

Lots of stuff, not just Joe and toys, is like that. The prototype gets made, get's photographed, and then the actual production model comes out that is different.
